Problem with changing FSB frequency

Hello everybody,

I have not done overclocking before, so please excuse me if my questions are dumm.

I have K3 Ultra motherboard (MSI) and Athlon 2000 CPU, the later should in theory have 1.8GHz frequency. It used to display 1.67GHz in System information. I was fine with that. However, after I had updated BIOS, I saw that in System information it started to display only 1.25GHz. Someone advised me to increase the FSB clock frequency from the default 100MHz. The motherboard manual says that the options range is from 100 to 220 MHz. I changed it to 150 MHz and then the system crashed: just black screen, I could not even switch it off normally. When I turn the PC on, I again receive just black screen.

Could someone help me with this problem?

Thanks a lot:

i would suggest you clear the CMOS, check your manual on how t do this (jumper pin position change and battery removal).
The system should reboot into the default BIOS settings.

Load up cpuz version 1.31..here..and run it to identify what CPU you have and the memory SPD (information programmed into the RAM modules by the manufacturer).

Then you can look at changing the fsb,RAM timmings, voltages, etc. Providing the motherboard BIOS allows this.

cheers

Thanks a lot! I will try this. By clearing CMOS, am I going to lose my settings and info other than BIOS?

nope, it just clears all the changes that you made to the bios. thats it.

I have similar problem. When i change FSB multiple system crashes(black screen). What's strange system crashes even if i lower the multiple! Changing FSB freqency does the same. Is there any hope to get this procesor work any faster? Maybe bios update or changing something else in bios may help?? The core of procesor it's of course Palomino
