AMD or intel build?

Ok, for x-mas i'm building my younger brother a computer (he currently has a slow emac)

Anyways, I have 500 bux to spend, and im deciding between AMD or intel. I have owned intel all my life, about 13 processors in total... Anyways, it needs to be a buget computer but for gaming (CS:S, bf2).. I have memory (cheap 512megs that will work) and a socket 478 motherboard. I also have an intel processor that i could sell or just pair with my motherboard. Time is important because it has to work by x-mas. There are 2 options

Option #1 AMD
----
Sell my 2.8E processor and my s478 motherboard (probably leave me around 650 dollars to build)

Option #2 Intel
-----
Keep the 2.8E processor and motherboard and spend my money on a nice AGP Gfx card and ram

Im looking for suggestions for an AMD build, needs to be PCI-E and s939. (future proof, sorta)

Also if i went intel, memory suggestions (no OC needed) and HD recomendations
Please remember, time is important, if i went the AMD route, i might not beable to sell my processor or mobo, so keep the price around 600 bux for a motherboard, processor, HD, GFX card and money left over for ram

5. Left over $ on memory

AMD Build (leaning twards this one)

If he games go w/AMD =)

Mobo: Chaintech VNF4 Ultra around 71.50$ shipped (out of stock at newegg bummer)
or DFI nf4 ultra 96$ or so

GFX: 6800gs 209$ or 6800xt 159$ - 20rebate
CPU: 3200 166$ shipped
(3700 or opteron 146 would be great but must are out of stock of opteron for like 160$ and the 3700 is like 233$)

Case: 53$ or so (hope you got a better PSU)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811138060

that leaves around 150$ for ram:
2x 512mb dual channel g.skill samsung TCCD

May be 650 +/- some but depending on what you take from the list. Good luck with the build whatever you go with.
