OK, Hows this possible?

Thread Starter
Now before I start, I dont claim to be all that knowledgable when it comes to overclocking. I know enough to tinker and thats about it.

I have some new memory coming in a few days so I thought Id have a play around with the stick that I have. As some of you who read my other posts know, its a 1gb stick of bog standard crucial that Ive been able to get stable upto 285 1T. So tonight I thought Id play with the timings. I dropped it down to 275 to give me some headroom and i dropped the timings to 2.5,2,2,5 and its still running!!!

Now am I missing something fundamental with this or do I have the clark kent of memory?

Well.. whats the voltage on the ram? Have you run a full stress test on your system? For a full stress test I usually run the Folding @ Home program, Prime 95 Mainly memory test, and 3dMark05 atleast once (at the same time). Then I let my computer prime for anouther 7-9 hours with folding on to make sure it's fully stable.

Look at the memory frequency, its 177. You're running a divider, causing your ram to run at 354mhz which is 50mhz under stock.

my board doesnt actually tell you the voltages. It just classes them as medium, high, and ultra high. I havent run the stability tests yet but i've been using it for about 6 hours general pc'ing and its not locked yet. I will run the tests tonight though. I was suprised it would even boot to be honest.

You should have a divider option, or a dram speed option something like that.

You for divider options which look like 1:1, 3:2, 5:4 etc. You want 1:1 in this case. You most likely have a DRAM speed setting such as 400,320 etc. You want 400 in this case.

Its a bios setting, maybe under advanced chipset settings, under memory settings. read your manual it will have that info.

Theres nothing in bios that asks me to select a ratio but there are a few ambiguous setting options that I might need to play about with.

On my bios it must be either 'bank interleaving' or 'flexibility option'. Neither of which asks me to choose a ratio, just auto or off. So the bios must have automatically being activating the divider which is why i didnt notice it!!

With it off I can get to 250 stable which isnt bad considering but I think I'd sooner have the processor running at 2.6 ghz using ddr400 than 2.2ghz with ddr500.
