Cannot renew IP

Thread Starter
I was installing a new printer on my wireless printer server, and had a bit of a snag. So, in order fo rme to connect to the printer I disabled WEP encryption on my router. After the printer was properly set-up, I re-enabled WEP. All computers can browse the network and the internet again, except one.

I tried releasing and renewing the IP address, setting up an specific IP, disabling WEP again, still no connection to the internet on that particular computer.

Here are some details:

D-link Airplus G DWL-G510 Wireless NIC
Win XP Pro SP2
WEP 64-bit

How can I get to the 'net again?

well, first check to see if the computer is connected to the router wirelessly by puttting http://192.168.1.1/ and see if the user prompt pops up... it should you said you were haveing a prob with encryption so....

go to Wireless Network connection properties, click the wireless networks tab, highlight the ssid you wish to configure and then click the properties button. make sure the encryption settings match your router and enter your password. If that doesn't work scratch your head cause Ill be doing the same lol.

Disconnect the power to the cable modem and turn it back on.

I had this problem on my Linksys before. This is due to the fact that the router is not giving out ip addresses. Try unplugging the router and leave it off for a few seconds and then plug it back in. It should reset the DHCP so the IPs would be renewed.

I tried all that between my post and now to no avail. I also noticed that my workgroup changed, so I put it back to what it is supposed to be, but still no internet.

Where is the "scratching head" emoticon when you need it!!!!

EDIT: Now it is assigning an IP address, but the incorrect one. I'm getting closer...

No, it is an Asus based computer the one with the issue.

Well if it it throwing up a number that starts with 169.**.**.**

then the Network card could be bad. You could try manually typing the IP address in on that computer and putting in the gateway and Subnet usually 255.255.255.0 . Also some routers when you set DHCP you have to specify how many computers are on the network so that it will only spit out the right amount of IP address's . If it is set of less then what you have then it will never give your PC an IP address because it only lets out as many IP's as you specify in the router configuration.

Indeed it is an 169. number. But I see no reason for a perfectly functioning ard to go bad just like that. Oh well, I have another wireless adapter I'll be installing when I get home work from home.
