Hi,

Thanks for writing this. I'm hoping to build a a new gaming PC soon. I just need to buy everything (New Egg/Micro center).
I have a nice one now but it's a little old.

Thanks

I'm a little newbie to building my own PC and after 7 years of procrastinating, I finally decided it was time to really build one.

Thank you very much writing this guide. It makes newbies like me feel welcome in a forum where the users have at least 100 times more knowledge that I have.

There isn't any pictures, but most of it I can youtube it.

Welcome to OCN! I know the knowledge of some members can seem daunting but we all start somewhere. I remember my first build...ah, the memories.

Thanks, I appreciate it a lot. I still marvel at the fact that I got an answer to my newbie question about 10 minutes after it was asked.

Very helpfull stuff.
I'm not very clever and cant buy out-right the system i want. I've read a few books and think i can try a build.
My part-time job will give me a budget of about £150 per month for parts. 8 months to a year depending on circumstances for the build.

I just ordered bit 1 - NZXT Phantom 410 Gunmetal Edition after stumbling on your forum then reading the reviews.
Bit 2 next month will be CPU Intel Core i7 3820 (4 x 3.6 GHZ) ? prices seem to yo-yo but about £170 would be good.

The original list i kinda lifted from a custom site was this:

Computer Case Mars ATX Gaming Case - Blue. Not available hence the Phantom.
CPU Intel Core i7 3820 (4 x 3.6 GHZ)
CPU Heatsink Intel Heatsink & Fan - Low Noise
Memory 8 GB 1333 MHZ (2x4GB) - (DDR3)
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 - 1.5 GB - (EVGA) - (PCI-E)
Motherboard Asus SABERTOOTH X79 (Intel X79)
Sound Card Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio (PCI-E)
Networking Wireless LAN 450Mbps (PCI-E)
Power Supply Corsair 800W Gaming PSU - Low Noise
CPU Compound Standard CPU Compound Supplied With Heatsink
Hard Drive #1 3 TB Seagate (3000 GB) SATA-III HDD 7200 RPM 64MB
Optical Drive #1 Sony 24x DVD/CD Re-Writer/Reader - Black - (SATA)
Case Lights 2 x Sharkoon 12" Green Light Tubes
Operating System #1 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BIT (Genuine DVD & COA Included)
DVD Playback Software FREE - CyberLink PowerDVD 10
DVD/CD Burning Software FREE - Nero V10 Essentials Suite 2
Monitor #1 23" HD LED Widescreen Monitor - Black - 5ms - DVI/VGA
Keyboard Logitech (G105) Gaming Keyboard - Green LED Backlit (USB)
Mouse Logitech (RX250) Optical Mouse (USB) - Black
Speakers Logitech (S220) 2.1 Speakers & Subwoofer - Black
Monitor Cables & Adapters - DVI Port to VGA Monitor Port Adapter

Not carved in stone, i'll adapt as prices / products change.
With your sites information and help i hope to avoid pitfalls.

I CAN build... me hopes thumb.gif

Got as far as "Now for the Power Supply".

I was sent the wrong RAM which has been returned for replacement but decided to make sure the power supply worked.
System comes to life, all fans running ok but then cuts out after about 10 secs then re-starts.

Is it the lack of RAM thats causing that or a sign that something else has gone wrong?
The cooler seems to be nice and snug on the cpu so i imagine its not a heat issue.

Thanks guys

Got my answer; pulled some RAM from another unit and tried that.

ITS ALIVE, ITS ALIVE. No cut out.

I've made a note not to skip the step by step guide in future. No harm done this time.
