Turion vs Athlon mobile OC testing done

Thread Starter
I have done a lot of OC tesing on a Turion-ML32 and an Athlon mobile 3000+ CPU lately. Both CPUs are socket 754, unlided, 90u, 512k cache, rated 35W at 1.4V. Mobo used is MSI K8NM with modified bios and air cooling. All tests are done at CPU temps below 50deg and Vcore increased max 10%. This is the results I got:
- The Turion clocked the FSB up to 270MHz, Athlon got up to 300MHz.
- CPU freq. on the Turion allmost reached 2.5G, Athlon 2.6G
- Turion stable at 2.3G, Athlon stable at 2.4G
- Both could run RAM clock up to 270MHz(PC4000 RAM)
- I ended up with at 2.3GHz with 9x mult on both, 255MHz FSB and full RAM speed for optimum RAM/CPU/temp performance.
- Super PI 1M with these setting: Turion 38.6s, Athlon 38.9s. The Turion is a bit faster.
- Power consuption: Same temp. at idle, Athlon 1-2deg. cooler at full load.
My conclution: The Athlon mobile is the best overclocker with higher FSB and core freq. at the same voltage and less power consuption. It would be interesting to test it with water cooling and high Vcore some day

Yeah I think a while back Yiffy showed us that the Turions weren't all that great. Good on low power consumption but not that good on overclocking. It'll only be good at powering a laptop and saving battery life.

That is a nice OC! I think the MT is a much better overclocker than the ML. No way to push my ML above 2.5GHz with that voltage. I will try the ML too if I'm changing CPU again. How high are you stable? How much cooling do you need for this? Fan speed and noise? Power consumption?
bb: keep us informed!
Maybe we should have a subthread for mobile overclocking on the AMD forum?

Fan speed is 2000rpm on a single 120mm rad,1/4" loop watercooled idle 28*c load 39*c highest stable clock 2.95ghz as of right now,i was impressed by this chip, when i got it she was prime stable for 10 hour's @ 2.8 now she does 2.95 easy HTT can go to 400 with no problem i bsod fast at 3.2 but it proves this chip has more in it. as for the subforum, yes i would agree that a new mobile thread would be nice, ill make sure to keep every 1 informed as i make headroom with this MT-40
