Cooler for Barton 2800

Thread Starter
Hi

i'm looking for the "right" cooler for my Barton 2800 runnig at stock 2085mhz. Currently i'm using the original with 49C ilde and 52C load. But i have to say that i have "Q-fan" activated on my mobo.

I was searching the net for a cooler and found the Arctic Cooling Copper Silent3 alias Copper Lite. It's cheap, quite and cools better than the original cooler. What do you think about it? I also want to do some overclocking; nothing extreme but something like 2200-2300mhz.
Is the Copper Lite compatible with Asus Q-fan technology?

thx for help

Hi,

I actually ordered the Arctic Copper Lite yesterday after several days of comparison and reading reviews. I also have a 2800 Barton on stock cooler.

Other possible coolers:
- Thermaltake Silent Boost
- A bigger/newer one with higher performance (SI-97A, Big Typhoon, XP-90, Volcano 12)
Here's my thread about it:
http://www.overclock.net/amd-air-coo...n-2-3-2-a.html

My conclusions:
- The Copper Lite is light, small, very silent and very efficient at cooling for it's price and size.
- The Silent Boost is very similar to the Copper Lite, it is bigger, heavier and has BETTER idle temperatures but WORSE load temperatures so I conclude it is overall worse, at the same noise level. It is also 10-15$ more.
- A bigger or more efficient cooler would not change much for a CPU as old as a 2800 Barton. With a Copper Lite it SHOULD be well possible to go up to 2.3-2.4Ghz at healthy temperatures or 2.5Ghz if you're (very) lucky.
- With a better and more pricey cooler you could possibly go up to 2.6 but it wouldn't make much difference anyway.
- The MX-1 thermal compound that comes with the Copper Lite is worse than the AS5 thermal compound, so one should use AS5.

A list of reviews can be found at www.artic-cooling.com .
I'm too lazy to look up what COP is so I just leave it out. If it's something like CPU overheating protection there is no need for it with the Copper Lite since on load the temperatures usually max below 60° and a 2800 isn't all that powerful (it is rated for up to 2.2Ghz).

thx for your information
yes i also like the Copper Lite
i've heard that the Silent Boost does much more noise than the copper lite

sorry about the c.o.p (cpu overheating protection) it was a mistake

i mean the the "asus Q-fan technology" that automaticly adjusts the fan speed for the optimal temperature

>> hey! we have the same mobo so you should have the same technology <<

Yes, I think every fan from a major company is adjustable in fan speed, especially in a case of higher quality like the Copper Lite. It can also be controlled manually with a certain software as far as I know but I'm using Q-Fan too.

depending on your price range, if your on a budget, check out the one that i reviewed (at the bottom where it says hardware review next to my sig) i think that its the best deal out there for socket A. also the volcano 12 is good and its about $35 or so, but its a little loud. i had the same problem with my 2600+ barton, it idled stock at 52c. now i idle at 35.5c and load at 40c.
