P4P800E deluxe Ram Issues

Thread Starter
Hi,
I have recentley purchased 4x 1G sticks of DDR 400 Ram memory to fit into my P4P800E Deluxe board but it does not recognise them all. If I install one at a time and then boot it will only recognise 2.00G of RAM memory. If I install a third stick is says that 2.62G of RAM is installed and the same for the 4th stick. I have been to the BOOT.INI/ADVANCED TAB and looked on there and the MEM is not limited. I have also been into the BIOS and checked what is available but the new RAM is not seen. Does anyone have any ideas that may shed some light upon this issue.

Many Thanks

Bryan

Welcome to the forums.

Due to some limitations with the chipset, not all 4 GB of RAM will show on that motherboard. Still, the vast majority of it (3.5+ GB) should be visible.

Since you purchased all of the RAM together, are all of the sticks the same brand and type? I would suggest running Memtest86 on each DIMM individually to make sure all of the DIMMs are good. Let the test run through two or three full passes for each DIMM. It's possible, though unlikely, that you received a dud or two. Once you're had a chance to do that, please post back with the results. Good luck!

Hi,

I downloaded the memtest program and ran it on the system in question and now faults were displayed. But.......only 2628MB of RAM was recognised. This is very perplexing as I know that 4GB is what was purchased and and are the same brand and speed etc very carefully installed and checked that the pins line up etc.

Things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm.......

Is there something so obvious that I'm missing here????

Regards

Bryan

Try running Memtest with each DIMM individually to see if it's an issue with all of the DIMMs in together or if one (or more) of them are the root of the issue.

Also, please take a few minutes to fill in your system specs by going to the User CP in the upper left corner of every page.

Read the post above you, like Taeric said that those boards have limitations about reconizing memory, maybe do a bios update??.

It's actually a limitation with the 865PE chipset, but it should still read in the upper 3 GB range (just shy of the full 4 GB that's installed). There's something else at work in addition to that issue. Hopefully it's just a bad DIMM that can be replaced.
