my bad, ment to edit my first post..ended up posting again

Stolen from my monitor thread.. I was asking what the Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM thought of their monitor.

I play, for the most part, only extremely fast paced FPS'ers and have little complaints with it's performance (being a 24" monitor and all). Zero input lag - tested vs. my CRT.

Viewing angles are decent, not great. Color is not too shabby once calibrated, but you're buying it as a gaming monitor - not for a photo accurate picture.

However, if resolution isn't an issue I would instead buy a 120hz Samsung 2233RZ. They weren't made at the time I got my monitor. At the time this model was the best performing 24" that out there, in fact the only 24" that existed with no input lag (possibly still one of the best). For fast-paced gaming the 2233RZ won't be beaten by anything but a CRT, but if you want 1920x1200 I still have the 2493HM at the top of my list.

See sig below if in doubt of what I play
Some say the 233RZ has 3ms, 5ms, and even 10ms response times. Another question: If I'm spending all this money for a nice computer, shouldn't I be gaming on 1920x1080 at the least? I mean colors don't mean jack ship to me when people/objects are ghosting in-game. 120hz seems amazing, and if this is technology I should be waiting for.. then I'm willing to make this a BF BC2 gaming rig, instead of a COD4#2 (they really messed up on the PC community this time) gaming rig.

They say the Samsung 233RZ uses a dual-dvi port, and has only one connection port (that would be it). Is this a huge down-side? Will it be compatible with a 5870? No HDMI? I don't really care about 3D gaming, because I want to avoid headaches. In addittion, isn't input lag really important on a monitor? I heard the 24" Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM has almost none.

I really don't know what to do, but I can tell you I have a lot of time. Battlefield Bad company 2 looks very promising, and I would hope a lot of new hardware comes out by the time the game is realeased.

New things to hope for/Questions:
Monitor: 1920x1200 @ 120hz, 0.27 dot pitch, low input lag, and response times.
Mouse: Does DeathAdder out perform MX518? (performance question)
Mouse pad: Do I want cloth or hard surface (never played on a hard)
GPU: ATI/Nvidia new cards
New stuff: MSI Big Bang <What's ita bout, and will it work well?>
Sound Card on Foxconn Bloodrage: it comes with a sound card, but since I want to play Battlefield (the one coming out on March 2, 2010), would I want to change the Sonar X-fi (comes with the mobo) for a new type of sound card?

Are there going to be any upgrades to look for until march?

Does the release of a GPU usually lower prices a month or two after (from the lower models of it's kind)? I would appreciate any Vets that can sum up this economical situation.

It's not time that lowers the price, its demand and competition....demand lowers over time, so will the price, and when competition brings the hurt, then they have to drop prices.

If you're thinking of the ATI cards, since demand is so high and Nvidia has nothing to compete with right now, dont expect a real price drop any time soon. They WILL go down eventually, but thats the nature of the beast, you can always keep waiting....a Radeon 3870x2 is quite cheap right now!

IMO, ATI's prices will stay the same until Nvidia responds, no sooner. Thus, nothing prior to thanksgiving.

Good to hear, and I wouldn't mind waiting to see what comes around.

I am not rushing anything what-so-ever. March is the month where the game drops, and I have plenty of time to do research.

What I'm hoping comes out by then... Alienwares DLP Huge Curved monitor!

by march, 5800's prices will definitely have dropped, and if you're not going to be using them till then, you've definetly got the right idea, waiting to buy till then.

since im building my rig to play BF BC2, does anyone know what they usually test their games on? Like intel cpus? or nvidia gpus?

isn't it best to go with the gpu the developers recommend(advertise) for a game?

OCZ GOLD (PC1280) 6GB $132 Good RAM, very popular for i7.
Foxconn BloodRage - $220 Good board, great overclocker.
i7 920 D0 - $200 No point in going i7 without the i7 itself!
Prolimatech Megahalems - $70 Best air cooler, good choice.
Rexus NMB-MAT (Panaflo) - $17 I hear Yate Loons are better.
DeathAdder - $60 Rated the best gaming mouse, not perfectly comfortable, but a great mouse nonetheless. Doesn't match red case.
ABS M1 Keyboard - $45 Can't go wrong with mechanical, but considering it's a gaming rig I suggest a gaming keyboard from Saitek or Logitech.
XFX 5870 - $390 Future-proofed for 1-2 years.

Windows7 64bit, hopefully for $30 (how do I pay the extra $13 to get the disk, student wise USA. Popular OS, would also grab a copy of XP for dual boot.

Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM = $320 Would personally avoid Samsung monitors due to 3 arriving DOA consecutively, I recommend an Acer, Asus or LG out of personal experience.

Total is $1944.00 without any harddrives or pins for the Remus fan!

Uhh, now my title is really misleading... I was green-leaf-legally medicated while posting this, sorry!

This is so funny...or a coincidence, but my new rig.. looks kind've like my old?

Case: CM
CPU: Intel
GPU: ATI HD Series
Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster Series

Mouse: Razer *this is the only company that's crappy, but will be returning to.. it turns out they aren't crappy..they made a good mouse with nice tracking(quick too). Who started this viscious rumour that Razer are a crappy company? They are quick when it comes to customer support, I got my replacement mouse within a week of emailing them when my DiamondBack died.

I'm coming back to the same companies, it must mean something!

EDIT: Please help me out, I need an amazing headset for FPS gaming <That I can wear for hours! A harddrive set up would be much appreciated! When it comes to gaming, the Audio Technica AD700's, and the Sennheiser HD555/595's are reputable.
Hope that helps.
