XPD:Another idea would be to put some ramsinks along the back edge of the vrm sink as there is a long flat section thats good for 4-5 ramsinks, though the last of the ramsinks needed fettling to cover the whole area,i think i had to chop of 1/4 off its footprint, but i can say it really helped share the load of dissipating the heat.
I will put up a pic when i get home sometime this week.
Then i tried reversing the exhaust fan so there would be cool air blowing over the heatpipe but oddly enough it increased temps!
next i will try using aligator clips to hold a smallish fan blowing air over as opposed to just using the exhaust fan to draw the air over them.
N2:i killed the nf980 in a mighty fashion...i quite liked the board but noticed severe firstname.lastname@example.org so i went to 1.72 to get 1.6 and it worked for a week or so then smelled worse than my sons socks and i spied melted vrm's...not to worry it was only £15 and i couldnt love a board that wont suffer my abuse without throwing a hissy fit.
Jayce:good luck, the worst you could face is unknown processor showing up in bios, but it should still function fully with the exception of CnQ
Boogas:hi yes 10 would be more than fine, all i ask is that you wait for me to return home sometime this week as im currently working away, otherwise you will be paying for something and possibly not receiving it for 2 weeks!
what i will recommend is overclocking your cpu-nb,metro/crysis 1 or 2 in dx11 mode/warhead/mafia2/batman aa still will be a helluva strain on your cpu and having 3 cards to feed is going to need require some overclocking abuse
losing a stick of ram to make a pair might be wise too, this _should_ allow a higher overclock.Edited by MightyMission - 7/18/11 at 1:06am
