Harald,i think g18 has to be used as the primary bios or things get a bit..weird..
i know that sounds odd but maybe it was just my mobo in particular that threw hissy fits if relegated to 2nd chip.

Thanks for the tip, but I finally ended up grabbing a new motherboard during Newegg's Black Friday deals so the Bios update is kinda on the back burner for now.

Sorry if this is misplaced, haven't been on here in AGES. (Read: Over 100 pages ago wink.gif )


Soooo. Foxconn Destroyer - based pc stopped working. Would power up for about 20-30 seconds, then just shut off. After a week of that, the video no longer showed that time. LED's also flickered, so naturally - PSU. Go out and swap my OCZ 700W GameXstream oldie for a new OCZ 700W ModXtreme. Woot. Modular.

Anywho.

Now the blue LED indicator blinks slowly, and no power up at all. Any thoughts? Did I just get a dud for a PSU? Manual doesn't mention blinking, but I'd imagine it's a power problem indicator.

Reset the BIOS and then boot into the BIOS. Check all your settings and ensure that your RAM is set perfectly for what RAM you have. Swapping-out the CPU for a different one will eliminate the CPU as a possible failure point. Swap the RAM in their sockets also to see if it is a RAM issue with one or more sticks (Running Memtest x86 helps too). Examine the board for singe marks, dust bunnies and busted/swollen/leaking capacitors. Replace the video card with one that you know works.

A great first step that I aways do is to remove everything from the board but the CPU, front panel and power connectors, then boot it. If you do not hear the "No-RAM" beep, then the board may be toast, or the CPU may be toast or the PSU may be toast. Test all three individually. thumb.gif

blinking it's a failed POST ,every time i had that it was due to overcooking the ram timings/frequency or wishful setting of the cpu OC,basically redoing the bios setup will sort it,if your really in a struggle and it wont boost via normal means,change the jumper to bios 2,assuming you have a failsafe bios on the second chip

Well first of all you need to know that you have a good PSU!

You can test a PSU w/out any thing connected to it by jump starting the PSU and measuring the voltages w/a digital Multi Meter "DMM"

Does the PSU power up w/spinning fans or does it not do any thing. This is the first and foremost thing you need to know going into diagnosing PC issues

Once you know whether you have a good or bad PSU then you can address the situation and go forward. If the PSU is good then you can look into other things like resetting the BIOS, Pulling all the hardware as mentioned above a few posts ago to see if you can get any no ram beeps and so on.

Cool thanks, hey what was that program that you use for the cpu ID, I read the last 100 posts and remember seeing you talk about it and that you needed it for the roster.

I also have another question I have one of the first Phenoms running and was wondering if any of the 4 core AM3s would work, I still need to upgrade my bios, also.
