You could theoretically pump LN2 itself through some sort of block to cool a CPU. But the cost of equipment would be astronomical.
QFT: Yessir...although you could do a LN chilled res...that is about it..and gains would be minimal actually, do the nature of LN...you would be continually pouring over/on the res, just to keep temps level. [assuming your alcohol didnt freeze].
As for the other Q's...here goes:
I use the res, to counter-act the pressure drop that occurs when you 'chill' acetone. Approx, 1/3 of the liquid volume will condense, once the temps drop to negative...this occurrence will cause a vacuum in a sealed system, and the pressure would destroy the pump rotor [compressing it to death]. With the res, the fluid will be able to expand and contract as temps move around...free of worries.
The pump is a D5, and totally insulated...nothing gets warm, at -60c.
Since cold is a negative energy, lack of insulation will help warm things up as the cold temps try to equalize with room temps.
Last time I ran this thing, I used 2x shut-off valves..after 4hrs..this is what they looked like with no insulation on them->
..needless to say, I insulated much better this time. I used, a 3/8" bubble-foam insulation...and double wrapped all the tubing, then secured over the top with 2" electrical tape. I cut a few pieces to go around the CPU block, and over the top of it between the nipples.
