Not only can my computer play games, it can create them and modify them. And the practically limitless number of other things it can do. And there's certainly no shortage of games on the computer. Maybe fewer "mainstream" games you see commericials for all the time and people buy just because TV tells them too. But there's still plenty of good games, and a lot of mods for existing games to make totally new ones. Yeah, I hate console gaming in almost all its forms, so I felt like starting an argument.
Agree with that, Perhaps the mose widely played game in my opinion *cs:s and 1.6* Was never publicized and I do not recall once ever seeing its commercials on T.V. yet almost every PC gamer has heard of it atleast once or twice. Us pc gamer's we're.. Well different! Gaming on a PC is unrivaled. Consoles are more for little kids and parties when all your buddies come over.

Xbox 360 has a retail price of $299, $399 for the one with the hard drive. But people are paying upwards of one or two thousand dollars for them on eBay (moron defined? I think so...). Last MSRP I heard for the PS3 was like $439 or something around that.

Quite a productive thread we have here...

Pretty sad to see a director purposely start an argument as well...

I dispute these points.

First, I don't believe that the "vast majority" of kids listen to hip-hop. A large market exists, that is certain. But there is a huge audience for other types as well. EA doesn't put alternative rock bands into every one of their titles for no reason, kids listen to that stuff too.

Second, 50 Cent's Bulletproof is an example of exactly what NOT to do with a game. It's an even worse idea than most movie video games, and the results show. Developers need to create quality games if they want to stay afloat, and crap like Bulletproof does nothing for a developer's reputation.

Finally, what kids want should not be the driving factor unless the game is being targeted directly at kids. The money demographic is actually upper 20s to early 30s, not teens.

The first part's true; the second part, not so much.

My often spewed mantra of "the best platform is the one with the games that you want to play" is never more true than when comparing consoles to PCs. Some games just work better on one or the other, and rarely is the overlap as great as it is when comparing the same game on two consoles. E.g., I would never play an RTS on a console; and give me Madden on a console any day. Frankly, I don't even think it is worth trying to compare them.

And consoles are for anytime, not for kids and parties. My consoles are hooked up to a 65" widescreen HDTV with digital surround sound, and I get to play it lying on my side on a comfy leather sofa. My PC only has a "lowly" 21" monitor, 4.1 surround, and is stuck upstairs in an office. All in all, playing games on my consoles is a frankly a much more comfortable experience, without even factoring in the games.
