[Freeware]GameSave Manager - Page 37

not sure if i would recommend this to friends.
the idea is great, and it backed up my games perfectly. but after installing it on a new pc and trying to restore my saves after installing all my games, when i restarted my pc i got an error saying "Group Client service failed to logon. Access Denied"

i then had to go through a very lengthy process of figuring out how to fix it including, booting into safe mode, creating multiple new accounts, change permissions as well as disabling the group services. just to be able to log back into my account again. even now the saves still never worked..

I'll throw this over to matt and see if he can make any sense of this 3.11am here right now so hopefully he will see it when he wakes up

Personaly. i think theres just been too many features added without any proper testing. so thats why Matt ends up with this odd bugs here and there.

The Common Problems are
If UAC is enabled
Non English characters in file paths

i cant think of anymore but Matt has possibly come across it somewhere within the forums.

PCGamer has recommended GSM. Hopefully 3.0 will squash alot of problems. he just needs to figure out how to get UAC to comply.

Okay im rambling. hopefully something gets sorted out for you soon. just dont kill your backup data as theres always a way to restore it
post #363 of 413
I think I had that error being thrown at me whenever I restarted my PC as well. Went away magically though.
Might've been because, since it was a new Windows install, I had UAC enabled (turned on by default, why ). Disabled it and went on with my life. Can't remember if it fixed my problem because this happened weeks ago

I would suggest turning off UAC just to see though. Might fix it.

Yup! Most common problems boil down to UAC... Matt is getting quite irritated with it. Whenever GSM 3 arrives i just hope that UAC will work with it.

While i remeber

WARNING!: DO NOT BACKUP WITH THE GSM3 CONCEPT!
i wasnt too botherd with my game saves and the restore function didnt work correctly.

Basicly with the GSM3 concept just look at it and see what looks right and what doesnt and suggest on what can be improved etc. e.g. is the file size detection correctly displaying how much data there is. does the file viewer (meh im calling it that) display the correct files that need to be backed up

little things like that.

UAC was disabled from the first time i ever booted up my computer. and once you get this error you can no longer log into your profile. as i mentioned, i had to create another profile in safe mode and copy over the files etc. to a new profile etc.

First time ive heard of this problem. I cant see any reason for GSM to harm any data. all it does is backs it up never changes anything. unless your restoring.

have you tried System Restore from the Windows 7 (disk) repair ? I cant see why the saves wont work on a new account
post #367 of 413
it was the restoring that caused the error. apparrently the error only comes if something messes with one of the system files. not sure why GSM would even need to mess with those.. but who knows. i've got everything back into working order though, so i'm content =]

I'm unsure why you think it was GameSave Manager that caused this.

I can assure you, the closest that GameSave Manager comes to 'interacting' with System Files is when using the mklink / junction.exe tools (which they do the alterations, not GSM!).

It never interacts with system-level operation. Restoring simply extracts files to the path(s) specified.
You must of done something else around the time of using GameSave Manager, or perhaps something randomly malfunctioned.

Is this thread dead?
I need a little help, done a full format OS install... I didnt know GSM existed at the time. So i transferred all my Game save folders to an external drive.
Ive now got my games all back up and running. Is there a way GSM can take my saves from my external and put them back on my PC... Or is it too late for me and i should of found GSM before i formatted?
