Building POWER PC....

Thread Starter
hi everyone.....

i am back........

how r u guys....really missed a lot of u guys around here.....

griffy....how u been?

anyway, i m on the way to new job in brazil now and so had to leave my darling with my girl back in msia....

so i have decided to build myself a new pc....a POWER PC....

this is where all of u come in....

can every1 start contributing ideas on the best components to go into this system?

to make it easy....money is not a question but dont ask me to but a prometheus....

meaning i dont mind spending a couple of grands to build a very good computer to blow every benchmark available right now in terms of graphics, cpu, drives and ram....but it has to be logical....

i am a hardcore gamer....unreal and nfsug2 among others...i do complex engineering simulations, chat and most importantly overclock....

i want to push this system at least by a gigahertz.... and as far as it would go....and when i say as far as it would go i mean as far as it would go....

so plz advise every1...ok...another thing...i have always used an intel proc but this time i wouldnt mind changing to amd but the system gotta be good....

i wouldnt mind dual proc either....so tell me and specify everything to me...from proc to floppy...

i could start by specifiying a system here but unfortunately last couple of months i have been out commissioning a plant and so have been totally out of touch with pc world....therefore please forgive my ignorance....

grazie

ciao

Well. I would get 2 7800GTX SLIed, a Opteron 460 or better, and 2 gigs of TCCD (DDR 600). But that's if you have an enormous amount of money to spend. You could OC the Opty to 3+ GHZ and score great on every benchmark.

I think my biggest question is when will you be settled into your new place? There are some new boards coming out that look pretty impressive as far as early reviews go. I'd like to at least offer up something that is newer and can support future feature sets.

Sorry man, the reason you weren't getting many answers because not a ton of knowledgable members are on in the earlier hours. But I will most definatly help you out.

A great system can be made right now, but really, u MIGHT want to wait a bit till after christmas, middle of January because thats when the new generation of A64 FX chips and a faster dualcore come out. But if you would not like to wait, heresa quick breakdown of a AWESOME system that will beat almost everything out there. And since you seem to want to have a pretty extreme overclock, are you thinking of phase changing your cpu?

If so....
Cpu: A64 FX57(better in gaming then an X2 really, or an X2 4800 is you want one.)
Mobo: Dfi Lanparty NF4 SLI-DR Expert
Ram: Geil One TCCD or BH series 3200, which ever one you want to get
Videocard: XFX 7800GTX 512mb, yuou can get 2 if u want to splurge for SLI
Soundcard: SB X-FI Xtrememusic or a X-FI Fatal1ty
And for cooling, depending what cooling you want, EIther a Thermaltake Big Typhoon for air cooling, Custom water or a Swiftech Apex water kit w/ storm block and dual 120mm rad, or a Mach 2 GT or Vapochill LS if you want phase change.

All together these things will cost about 3 grand or so, but will be one MEAN comp and if u get phase change should be able to overclock pretty close to that 1ghz u want

Hope this helped you, and btw, welcome back

adas made some great suggestion for a new rig. I would however get the Fatal1ty X-Fi card with the 64MB onboard RAM to alleviate a little more of your system resources as well as to be able to run your sound on Ultra settings (so far Battlefield 2 is the only game I know of that will benefit from it).

Battlefield 2 uses Xram? Are you positive? I know it used the HD EAX 5.0, but I haven't read anything that said it uses Xram. If it's not written to use it, it can't.
Edit: He's right, here's a review stating that it does use Xram. However, the review wasn't very good

I agree with adas, FX-57, TCCD memory, find the 512mb 7800 that has like a 1700mhz ram clock, and vapochill would be my dream build, although the FX-60 is coming out January 10th and is dual core 2.6ghz ~ would be one mean dual-core if you could get 3ghz+.
