i7 Build Help/Recommendations

Thread Starter
Hey guys..new member, but active viewer of overclock.net..looking for a little advice on my new i7 build..i got some good deals on the parts, so thats mostly the reason I chose them..let me know what you guys think and if you have any recommendations..I am using the system for graphic design, web design, light gaming and hd movies. Thanks in advance!

Build:
i7 920 D0 stepping (OC'd to 3.2 ghz)
MSI X58M LGA 1366 Intel X58 Micro ATX
Visiontek Radeon 4850 GDDR3 (Not sure whether to get 512 or 1gb..any suggestions?)
OCZ Obsidian 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Rosewill Green Series RG530-2 530W
1 TB HDD 7200 RPM
Antec 300 or 900 or 1200 (havent decided the case yet..used to have a 1200 w my q6600 but I think it might be overkill for a micro...)

Thats about it for now..any help on this build will be much appreciated! Thanks again

first of all i suggest you dont get msi as they are unreliable with most peoples experiences ... try an asus p6t series like mine or gigabyte boards. second please get a good cooler like a mugen 2 or true or a megahalemby prolimatech with one of these coolers aand motherboards you will be guarenteed to hit 4.0ghz with rock solid stability and great temps. other then that you should be fine... although id get a corsair psu as they are rock solid

edit: also for the graphic card you should consider the gtx260 from nvidia they have cuda and are dirt cheap now

I would stay away from the Roswel PSU, go with a quality maker like Silverstone, Enermax, Corsair, Coolermaster etc. The rest looks fine though I'm not a huge fan of MSI or mATX boards in general - a full ATX will give you more room and probably stay a bit cooler.

Just by looking around at different sites and stuff and from personal experience I just not a fan of MSI nor am I of Rosewill, have heard a bunch of people getting not quality parts from said manufacturers, I would stick with Corsair or Antec for the PSU and for a mobo prolly Gigabyte followed by Asus, seems Asus stepped their game back up now as I hear people raving about them again after a little lull in their product quality there for a bit..

yes i agree i used to prefer asus back in the day for socket 478 boards but then when they came out with the 775 boards they werent as good.... i found gigabyte to be rock solid for 775 iv never ever had a single problem with gigabyte and iv put together about 15 computers with gigabyte boards ... when i was buying my mobo i decided to give asus a second chance for the x58 series and i am surely impressed my motherboard is rock solid and i can easily clock my 920 to 4.5GHz + on it

Ok guys..thanks alot for your input..I will probably switch to a corsair psu..the only reason I chose the MSI (I usually purchase Asus and ATX boards) was because i got it for a steal ($100 brand new for a x58 board is pretty good) so I will probable try it and if Im not getting good results then switch to the p6t..I dont game too often so hopefully I wont see heating issues..any input on video card? Dont know if I should get a 512 or 1gb..

also I am using a Dell G2410 24" LED Monitor at max res..

Thanks alot guys

Also, one more thing...should I add a velociraptor/raptor 10,000 rpm drive? I read many forums where they say there isnt a noticeable difference between 10,000 rpm and 7,200 rpm with standard computing..

dude just get a caviar black they are plenty fast for your needs and as for the graphic card if you must get a ati then get a 1gb to futureproof yourself for a little bit of time .... i still recommend the gtx260 though!
