i7 Build Help/Recommendations - Page 2

A lot of people who do web/graphic design use Photoshop:

A parent of a friend of mine works for Adobe, and according to my friend, Adobe CS4 is not "standard computing". It is a resource hog that, by design, requires a top quality machine to run well. The latest Photoshop, with large image files, is harder to run than Crysis. The tech support forums at Adobe mention the HD 4890 as the low budget option, with the next price tier being $1,000+ workstation cards.

If you want to use Photoshop CS4 for your graphic design work, the ideal setup is a RAID array or hard drive (at least 500mb according to Adobe tech support forums) exclusively for scratchdisk, a second for the OS, a third for the pagefile, a fourth for installing CS4, and a fifth for PS save files.

Personally, I went with a 64gb Corsair SSD for the OS, pagefile and CS4 install, a Western Digital Caviar Black 640gb internally for PS scratchdisk and video game installs, and a second 640gb Caviar Black in an external eSATA enclosure for PS save files.

The 640gb (and only the 640gb) Caviar Black has fewer moving parts and a better controller relative to other 7,200 disks.

And I agree that you should get a better PSU.

Don't get MSI. get gigabyte or evga instead.

I would go with caviar black/velociraptor and better PSU

Ok, Thanks all for your help. About to place my order of my new build. Does anyone have a recommendation on a power supply. I am going with corsair, just dont know how many watts I will need for this build. I will be overclocking the cpu to 3.2 ghz and ram to 1600mhz

Thanks again for your input..

The Corsair HX520 should be plenty for that build. Please go with the EVGA Micro ATX board though...I don't like MSI either.

Pagefile? That's not recommended... it'll help your SSD deteriorate, as when items are deleted a tiny part of the SSD goes with it. I'm personally going to do a "Ramdisk" with 4GB of my 12GB I'll be getting for my pagefile and caches.

But yeah, for the OP, I'd recommend atleast a 750TX Corsair Power Supply. It's cheap, and you won't have to upgrade for years. Also, it'll give you a bit of leeway to overclock your CPU more, but you'll need an efficient cooler for that. And, frankly, get the WD Caviar Black 640GBx2 in Raid 0... You'll get nearly double the speed of the Raptor, because it benchmarks just under the Raptor.

edit: also for the graphic card you should consider the gtx260 from nvidia they have cuda and are dirt cheap now
I can say the same thing about Asus. I got few Asus motherboards and most of them were a crap.

not bad man
just 2parts i would NOT have chosen

the MSI board,99% of MSI are suppose to b crappy(never had any experience w MSI myself, just wat i heard)

and the PSU
in ur case,i would go w the Corsair TX 650,future proof for single GPU and great PSU

as the case, may i suggest the Coolermaster 690,great case at a great price w tons of room

otherwise ur components look good to me

EDIT:
wat CPU cooler are u going to b using, if u ahve not decided yet, i will suggest the PROLIMATECH MEGAHALEM, best aircooler as far as i know(except for ifx14,which is suppose to have less good mounting abilities)
