And another gaming computer build thread

I guess those threads are becoming annoying but I just have to get some oppinions

Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103562 AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131568 ASUS A8N32-SLI

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143042 BFG Tech Geforce 7800GT

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231008 G.SKILL Extreme Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) (Not sure about this one but I've seen a lot of people suggesting it. I'm not even sure if I can find it where I live)

Harddrive: I was thinking of trying a RAID0 setup although I've never done this before. Read a nice FAQ someone made and I'm pretty sure I can set it up. Was thinking of using 2x80gb hd from Seagate. Suggestions are always welcome

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133154 Thermaltake XASER, Armor Series

PSU: A bit confused here aswell. Seen a lot of people suggesting this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817709004 but I dont seem to be able to find it where I live.

I'm not a crazy overclocker myself. I do like to play with the settings a bit but I never push it to the limit
As the title says this computer is mainly gonna be used for gaming.
I used newegg.com just for links I'm buying the stuff from local shops here.

That's a huge tower. I personally wouldn't want it but cases are, after all, a matter of taste.

look into the OCZ modstream series. Powerful, tidy, quiet PSUs that rock.

I like getting 1GB sticks of RAM, preferrably DDR500.

The GT isn't a bad card, but I like ATI and think the GTO is an amazing card for the money.

I don't know enough about SLI mobos to recommend one, but MSI and DFI make good non SLI boards.

Check out my FAQ in my signiture for more info, and links. Nice CPU.

well, if you do get that cpu you will probably want to try to OC it. it's the entry level dual core and 2x 2ghz will be a little slow for some games because most games do not utilize dual core yet. however, you will be more future proof then me

That board should be pretty good... but it won't oc as well as a DFI. Asus does make stable boards and they are easier to oc... you just can't tweak as much as with a dfi.

Also, the rAM you chose will go well with the mobo because you chose TCCD ram and they don't like over 3v and the Asus boards can't supply more than that (I think the a8n32 can but still not as much as the dfi)
I'm not sure the difference between all these memory chips:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231035
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231006
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231008

that's a good choice on the gfx card. the 7800 series are the best (in my humble opinion) if you want to save a couple dollars I'd say go for an evga. they still have a lifetime warranty, a step up program and good customer service.

i have no experience with that psu, but i've heard good things about it. the only trouble is finding someone who has it in stock. i know that frozencpu carries it so you might want to look there. if you can't find it I would suggest:
OCZ powerstream 520 (the modstreams aren't as powerful)
seasonic S12-500 or S12-600 (the 600w like I have is one of the top rated psus currently.)

hope this info helps.

So you think the CPU won't be enough soloz? As you said I'd like to be future proff, can't upgrade every month hehe

Thx for your advice for the PSU I'll check that and I think I'll stick with the Asus mobo cos as you said they are more stable and I'm not the crazy overclocker myself...you could call me a softcore one

I'd rather get a 3700+ San Diego and overclock it, instead of the Dual Core. Just my preference though.

no, I think the cpu will be fine. Basically it's 2 of my processors put together. and my cpu even at stock speeds runs games just fine.

I was merely saying that there are pros and cons to getting either a single or a dual core cpu at this point.

dual:
pros - future proof
cons - not as good as single core cpus in games and only a handful of games are optimized for dual core cpus

single:
pros - faster in most games, overclock better typically, cheaper
cons - not as good in multitasking and not as future proof.

That is why I said if you get the x2 3800 you might want to try to oc a little. That way games that only use a single thread would run faster.
