First of all I think this processor you have is supposed to run at 166 x 13, I might be wrong but I think it's almost the same CPU as I have. Just mine is a Sempron and has a multiplier of 12x.

If that XP3000+ is a 333fsb you should be at 166x13 for 2.17GHz.

Change up your fsb in the BIOS.

cheers..and be happy not mad !

There is prolly a jumper on the motherboard to set. Look for the manuel to your mobo and check it

Did you A: Just install the mobo?
B: Just installed the CPU and replaced a 2600+ or below?

This is a new system.I read the manual.. and max my mobo supports is 166 , damn and even i have 512 DDR Pc 3200 but my mobo supports 333 MHZ only.

One more problem, i have 2 sticks of 512 DDR pc 3200 and 2 DIMM slots. Both the sticks are same except for the height one is shorter than the other. For convience i'll say dimm 1 and dimm 2..
1) I inserted the shorter stick into DIMM1 and checked with memory diagnostic s/w and it showed errors as

with memtester
Quote:

and with system memory diagnostics
Quote:

test expected actual

2)The same shorter stick when i inserted into DImm and checked it showed no errors
3)i inserted other stick and ckecked on both DIMM 1 and 2 no errors were shown

4) I inserted Both the sticks i.e shorted stick on dimm 1 and other on dimm 2 . OS did not load

if this is the first time u see this message restart u'r system if the problem persists plz follow th einstructions

check to make sure new hardware is proerly installed .check for windows 2000 updates

if problem continues disable or remove h/w oe s/w newly isntalled . DIsable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing
5) I insrted shorted stick on dimm 2 and other on dimm1 OS loaded but after some time its ssows me error and system reboots

what might be the prob lem .....
