2 x GTX7800 SLI and a third PCI vid card -is that possible??

Can you have 2 PCIe cards working in SLI AND a third 1x PCI graphics card also? I'm trying to figure out how I can have at least 3 monitors connected to the PC AND still have SLI performance on one monitor.

Is this even possible?

THANKS

When you connect both PCIe cards in SLI you loose multi-monitor support. SLI supports only ONE monitor. Hence the idea of connecting a 3rd regular PCI card with 2 more outputs. In theory at least....

wondering if anyone out there has been crazy enough to do this...

I'm sure you can use 2 monitors in SLI, as most cards can utilize multi-monitor support but from your other thread, I dont think you can use 4 monitors in SLI, so it's either 2 in SLI or 4 in non-SLI.

Both the cards should have 2DVI ports im sure of it so all you have to do it hook em up unless you want them all to have Diffrent displays but im not sure how the Dual thing works as ive never tryed it

I run Dual monitors on my setup now but its from 1 card, I will have SLI running in a few weeks and I'll be able to test it out, but I'm sure he can run dual monitors off SLI for regular stuff but I'm not sure if he can use 4 monitors while running in SLI. If he has SLI turned off then he's running what he is running now with 2 vid cards and using 4 monitors.

Now if he wants to game and stuff, SLI will only work with 1 monitor, but the max monitors he can run is 2.

I've tried gaming with 2 monitors and it runs my games really slow since part of the memory is going to the second monitor. I just turn it off before i start.

Thats what I was thinking... both PCIe cards on SLI have a total of 4 outputs. You can have 4 monitors but if you switch to SLI you can only see ONE monitor... according to some of the posts in this thread, maybe 2 monitors MAX. One of the cards will not render anything out since basically it will be "helping" the other. And... according to what people are saying, running 2 monitors on SLI is SLOW, so I would rather just leave ONE monitor connected to the SLI cards.

Obviously my goal is not to be switching SLI on and off or connecting/disconnecting monitors... so my logic says you can add a third PCI card to the system. The two PCIe cards would be always on SLI, with only ONE monitor connected. and then a 3rd card with 2 more monitors... That would give me a total of 3 monitors connected and SLI performance all the time.

Ofcourse, this is in theory... my system would probably implode trying to process all this. I'm getting a migrane as it is could this be possible,,, THAT is the question ;-)

I dont see how running dual monitors would be slow, it would only be slow in gaming but with 2 GTX's it'll be faster than what you have right now. You will be able to run 2 monitors with regualr programs and multi-tasking but with gaming your best bet is to just turn off 1 monitor (its not that big of a hassle). But I'd say unless you REALLY need 4 monitors 2 will suit you just fine and 1 with gaming will be insane. I can't wait until i can run mt 2 GT's

You might run low on IRQ's or have conflicts leading to lowe performance.
