Thread Starter
Im building a new rig for xmas and i need some opinnions on the parts.
I want to stay wit AMD and NVIDIA. Heres what i just put together-

Motherboard:
ABIT AN8 SLI

MEM:
OCZ Enhanced Latency 2GB (4x512)

Proc:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester
or
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego
or
AMD Opteron 150 Venus
wich one would be better

GFX:
eVGA 256-P2-N527-AX Geforce 7800GTX

Case:
Thermaltake SHARK VA7000BWA

HD:
HITACHI Deskstar T7K250 HDT722516DLA380 160GB 2x

PSU:
HyperX type r? 600w

Is this setup good? What will i see in oc able with an dd wc kit.

All i can say is WOW...
those components are gonna be great together, although there is still one undecided factor: the CPU!

considering they all run at 2.4Ghz it is really up to you. What do you intend to do? game i'm guessing, LOL!

Do you run multiple applications at once (e.g. have use for the X2)?
the 4000+ has a 12x multi so, will you use it when Ocing... if you are OCing?

I have no information on the Opterons so hopefully someone else will help you out in that area...

hope i helped and/or aided in your solutions...

BTW, that is just my opinion/view on the information given.

if you're going to be overclocking I wouldn't suggest going with those CPUs. If you want dual core then I'd suggest an X2 3800+(save some cash), or a 4400+/Opteron 175 if you want the extra L2 cache. The 3700+ would be a better choice than the 4000+ as it's unlikely you'll ever need the 12 multi. Also, you could try an Opteron 148 and hope for a decent stepping.
The rest of the setup looks great, you could also consider some 1GB sticks instead of 512MB sticks, such as Crucial Ballistix or the OCZ Platinum series.
Hope this helps

http://xoxide.com/hiper-power-supply-black.html Here, but it failed the last power supply review done my Tomshardware.

I suggest this one......
http://xoxide.com/seasonic-s12-600w-psu.html

Also, I'd sub out the Abit and get DFI or MSI. Here's a review of all 3...

A 148, which is still available and will be just as good an OCer as the 150 and less money.
On the RAM... get 2x1G over the 4x512s.
