If you can find a renderer that has an ambient occlusion channel, you are in. I know that mental ray and vray use a shader for this effect, Fry Render has one(don't know about Maxwell). I rendered and opened in PS and used a fractalius filter and it almost makes a NY Times pencil sketch effect.

Well, mr ships w/ max, so you're set. The ao on vray is the vraydirt shader. It's not usually used much though, since most people who have vray have it for it's great gi efficiency, which is the effect ao attempts to mimic (thus it's really not needed when using full gi setups).

I saw this vid a few days ago. This is right up there w/ the cintiq on my "do want - can't afford" list. Really cool hardware.

Hello... #takes a peak inside at the jaw-dropping 3d works#

...Can I submit my... erm... work?

I have attached 4 pics, one fan rendered, one fan in 3dsmax, one fan wireframed and the blades.

The blades took me some time to figure how to bend, and I'm still not happy, the mesh editing was no problem.

I don't know yet how to chamfer the edges of an object in such way to take in consideration previous chamfer at other intersecting edges, in a way that the corners end up nicely rounded.

I got no clue how to use and control the mapping. I added a difuse bump map with noise, but I can't get it to be colored in brown, it remains gray in rendered picture.

And lots of other flaws.

And it took me 6 hours to make it!

What do you mean -tricky-? (I'm self taught English and don't know the slang very well)

I'm making a rocket of some sort right now, started out as making a chair leg in the beginning but turned into a rocket... *shrug*. I'm in a learning process.
This week I'm going to measure up my PC components and model a case for myself made out of polystyrene. Bought the materials, just need the idea+modeling done.

Good luck on renderings! I just discovered my rig it weak at rendering movies of complex scenes.

tricky= hard to accomplish, difficult task , stuff like that.
