Fx-55?

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

I am wondering how much an fx-55 would overclock to (just a general area) with a DFI expert board and my geil ddr500 (512x2). This would be cooled with a XP-90c and 75cfm fan. At a stock 2.6, would it be reasonable for this chip to hit 3.1 with that cooling and hardware?

Just wondering because I may sell my opteron once I get it if it can't perform the way I want, and i may buy a fx-55.

I run a 3700 san digo core at 2.9 all day long on air...The San diego core oc's very well.....So....Where 3.0 is most likely obtainable, I cant say about 3.1

3700SD are stock at 2.4 though right? And the fx-55 is stock at 2.6 so 3.1 wouldnt be out of the question would it?

With good cooling you will be fine. You might have to have really good cooling to get through that extra bump of Vcore voltage. But your mobo and ram are both really good and should be fine. I think that it is very possible with a good deall of tweking that you will hit 3.1 gHz. Good luck OCing.

It's (or was) an $800 processor, not many people own them...
If you get a San Diego core, 3GHz might be possible, but 3.1 is probably pushing it. If you get a ClawHammer core, you'd be lucky to get 2.8 on air.

Yeah its nice to have one mine does 2.8 with the stock cooler but the temps were getting a little high for my tastes. Id say you could hit 3.0 with good cooling but youd need the san diego core for sure.

yea, the one im looking at is a SD core, so hopefully 3.0 would be in my sights. By the way, what does a 3.0ghz fx-55 equivilent to on Intel standards? Like 4.2ghz? Because my 650 was at 4.00ghz and it wasn't that fast Only 32-33 seconds for a 1MB super pi test. wouldn't a 3.0-3.1ghz fx-55 do 30 or even high 20 seconds?

My stock fx-55 does 35sec pi lol. As far as comparing to intel I aquamarked the fx-55 at 2.6 and it got 10,000 in the cpu score. My old 640@4.2 got 12,500 so I thought that was kinda funny.
