Gettin a job, building a rig...

Thread Starter
Hey everybody, I've been thinking about upgrading for a while, so I'm planning on getting a part time job at one of our 209387509234 restaurants. ! I'm not really sure about budgeting as of now, but 550 to 650 would be good... Heres what I've got so far...

I've already got the Case, Harddrive, and Power Supply (Though the PSU might be lacking, its only 420w I believe.) So I really don't need a ton of stuff.

I was thinking of going with the DFI Lanparty UT Ultra D, it's $135 and I've heard good things about them, but I've also been told that Asus might be the way to go...

For my Proc., I WAS looking at a Dual Core Athlon X2, but I don't really multitask, and those things were hella expensive, so I figure I'll just go with Athlon 3700+ San Diego, it seems like the next best thing for $233.

Then theres memory... I'm familiar with all the good brands, but I'm really stuck on going with 2 gigs, or just sticking with a solid 1 gig kit. For $105 they're selling an excellent Corsair 1 gig kit, and it's at 2-3-3-6. That's what I'm leaning towards, rather than 2 gigs, and I can always buy the same kit later when I have the money to upgrade.

Finally, the Graphics Card. I love gaming, even though I only game moderately, as in an hour or two a day. I play CS:S, GuildWars, BW:2, The Movies, etc... and they really don't look too impressive on my current system. I want to be able to play at FULL Settings, with nothing turned down, ya know? SO, I've been looking at nVidia, mostly because I don't know crap about ATI. . I was looking at around 200 dollars. I've been looking at the 6800GS, and the 7800GT, even though it would cost around 300, I think it would be worth the investment right? So that puts me a little over budget, but tell me what you guys think, I gotta go finish my homework for mid terms lol. Night guys.

Sounds good to me. And Asus is definately a great way to go, I just put together a rig with the K8N-E and it was a breeze.

You seem to have yor ducks in a row there
DFI, 1 Gig for now and a 7800gt = schweet.
On the PS, do you know what the 12+v rail "a" or amperage is ?
If your in the 24ish amps range you should be ok if its a 24 pin.
