cpu temperature is 80 degrees celsius when doing the prime95 torture test

Thread Starter
Okay guys I overclocked my q6600 to 3.0ghz and I left the voltages the same. I then started a prime 95 torture test, its been an hour into the test so far without failure but speedfan says my cpu is 80 degrees celsius. Is this normal and part of the test or should I revert settings?

You could get a new cooler for your q6600, that would certainly help. Also, for future posts, feel free to go into your UserCP and fill out your system information, so you are easier to help based on your individual specifications without having to type them out all the time.

Use RealTemp to monitor cores

Use realtemp or coretemp, speedfan is pretty useless.

Well speedfan is telling me the core temps as well core1 and core 4 are 82 while core 2 and 3 are 78. All 4 were roughly at 80-82 but i turned on the AC in my house. Should I be using Realtemp over speedfan?

Just installed real temp getting the same temps for cores as speed fan.

81 81 78 78

The prime 95 torture test is still going on its been 2 hours and the core temps seem to be holding at an average of 80 degrees. Does this mean my 3.0ghz overclock was a success and I can end the test? or should I leave it running for a while?

also I forgot to mention this is the small fft test in case that matters. I read the small fft was the best one for testing the cpu. I made no changes to my ram settings and only OC the cpu.
