Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thread Starter
I installed a new video card, a Chaintech Geforce 6600GT about 1 week ago. Everything worked fine, except for the gpu core temp., it was a little high (idle 60, max 98). The system was stable and there weren´t any artifacts.
Yesterday I turned on the system and I saw a spark coming out the PSU, and then it died (it´s a Thermaltake Butterfly 480w). I´m not sure if the video card has something to do with that, because it worked fine in every game and this happened while I turned on the system, not playing any game.

Any help will be extremely appreciated.

Your power supply died on you. The new video card drew more current than your old one and your psu couldn't handle it. Hopefully,it didn't damage anything else when it blew.

I'd say that it's probably your psu. the spark coming out the side of it is a good hint

But yeah, I have friends who try to cut corners as often as they can and refuse to pay money for quality components even though 2months later they're looking to upgrade again because what they have just doesn't cut it...

I ran an aspire 500w psu for 4 months then I noticed that that 3.3 and 5v rails were fluctuating way more than I was comfortable with. I went to the psu in my sig and there is a huge difference in build quality and in stability.

I'm not too familar with TT psu's but I haven't seen anyone raving about how good they are either. If its still under warranty see if you can send it in. if not, then it's time to go shopping for a new psu.
