Geeks3d.com reports that the HD5770 doesn't support Double Precision for Open CL applications. Is this true?

Where would this be useful? Is this feature important?

Why would the HD5770 not include it when many 4000 series cards had it and the new HD5800 series have it as well?

Yep. It only effects things that would need DP. Folding (not ALL WUs need it. Only the big ones that are like 1888 and such) need DP.
