I7 860 What is the Highest safe temp, highest safe voltage on air...

Asus Maximus III Formula
Megahalem
2gb G Skill Ripjaw 2000 9-9-9-27

Atm My settings are as followed

182.4x22= 4013
1.32v core
1.51v ddr

idle temps 30-34
max temps 54-58

I booted and ran at 191x21 @ 1.3v, but after a crash I could never boot at those same settings again so after lots of testing I was successful with 182x22 @ 1.32v.

What is the highest safe level I can put the voltage up to in trying to oc farther?

I tried 186x22 @ 1.34v and it would crash right before I would enter windows.

Am I as far as the cpu can get with reasonable volts or is there most likely another prob like needing more ddr voltage or needing to lower the ram speed.

I spent a few hours trying different things and decided I wanted to get advice before I went too crazy.

I wouldn't let the temp go over 75C. The highest safe voltage; probably around 1.4

I don't have much experience overclocking. But I found ram voltage to be critical. If that ddr 1.5v is your memory setting it should be set to 1.65v to be stable.

Ya that's my ram voltage. I was told to try 1.4-1.45v on ram and decided I couldn't boot any lower then 1.5v. That is with one 2gb stick. When I get my second stick tomorrow I assume I will need atleast 1.6v to boot.

What's the highest safe Ram voltage?

1.65v is as high as I would go or you could burn out the memory controller on the cpu.I have read on here that several people have it at 1.66v which put's in the red but everyone say's it's ok.But you should just set it at 1.65v and be done.Whatever your memory is rated to run at is what you should set it at as long as it's not over 1.65v.

If you've got a foxconn socket, I'd stay below 1.43. If you have a lotes or that other one, I say about 1.48 or so.

for temps..I would not let mine head over 85C

I tried 191x22=4.2 @ 1.43v IBT crashed within 5 seconds
I tried 186x22=4.1 @ 1.4v IBT crashed on 10th loop topping at 84c

I ended up with 182x22=4.0 @ 1.38v Completed IBT 200 loops without a prob. Highest temp was 71c

I would really like to get 4.1 stable I just don't think it's going to happen on air based on what I was seeing

You should try the x21 multi for 191.

I'm going home for lunch to mess with it.

I have been reading the 1156 thread and saw that trip was stable at 4.3 @ 1.396v and never went over 71c while testing stability. He has the same cooler as me and said his ambient was around 20c

When I was testing at 1.38 @ 4ghz I was hitting higher temps then that. That type of thing just rdm ? Or maybe re-seat my cooler... I guess I will try different things. I keep my apartment 20-22c

should I have turbo on or off?

4.2 21x200 tried all of the following1.4v, 1.41v, 1.42v, 1.44v

Got more stable with every voltage up, but at 1.44 it crashed on the 5th loop of IBT so I stopped there

@ 1.44v
Temp Idle 37-37-39-35
Temp loaded 82-83-77-84

This is with turbo off, HT off

I guess I just won't be able to do 4.2 because I don't want to go any higher on the volts and the load temps scare me.
