I'd say its better by a good margin in a few games, but it outperforms it in every benchmark though.

Yeah, basically. Just make sure that the vendor you buy from has good tech support. If your card has problems, you'll go through hell just to get it fixed if you buy from a vendor with shoddy tech support. Case in point, Asus . I RMA'ed my A8N-SLI Deluxe because the second PCI Express slot didn't work properly. I specifically stated this in my conversation with an Asus rep. I get it back and on the paper that it came back with it said they replaced a couple MOSFET's and capacitors because they thought the problem was that it wouldn't boot up . Idiots...

If you really want it then get it. But Id wait for the price on it to go down a little more.

Ok, here is my guid to upgrades: Is your computer doing what you want right now? Ask your self: What do I need my computer to do, and then see if it is doing it. If your goal (like me) is to play all the new games and make them look really nice doing it, can you? If not, maybe you should think of upgradeing.

I strongly suggest holding off on the 7800 or x1800 since the next wave is scheduled for late Jan or early Feb. If you think about it, that's like 4 weekends after Christmas, it's not really all that long of a wait. The new cards will be a bigger step up than just getting something newer and faster. If they don't support DX10 or have something that knocks your socks off, it will at least force some serious downward pressure on stores trying to get rid of their "old card" stock. Either way, you win. Just jumping up 1 release isn't quite enough in my opinion, but that kind of depends at what pace you plan to continue upgrading your machine. I'm kind of under the "waiting at least every other release" wave

Once the G71 and the R580 come out, the prices will drop on the 256MB 7800GTX and X1800XT.

There's got to be some US shops that ship overseas. Have you looked into that? The shipping shouldn't be much on a video card.
