Well, so has the PSP. And the DS does have some blockbuster titles under its belt that the PSP cannot compete with. As ridiculous as we all may find this, Nintendogs completely owns GTA:LCS in sales.

I saw some one make a comparison about starcraft in another thread about nintendo. Wow way to take something not even related. So are you saying if starcraft was released today with the same graphics it had back in the 1990's and it had to compete against the graphics we have now.. No one would buy it. plain and simple. Graphics do make a game.
I believe that was me, talking about Starcraft 64 on the N64. But it wasn't in this context. Edit: Whoops, my bad; I was wrong, I saw the thread you were talking about.

Even so, I think Starcraft holds its own with 90% of the "prettier" schlock that is churned out today. Release it on a modern console with higher resolution graphics and it would sell. I guar-un-tee.

Nope, other way around. The DS is outselling the PSP in units and in games, this is a verifiable fact. And innovation is subjective, but I think that a dual-screen format were one of them is a touch screen is clearly more "innovative" that a miniaturized PS2 because it is something totally new. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the PSP, and the PSP is without question a more powerful piece of hardware. But more innovative? No, Nintendo has owned that title for a long time (with varying degrees of success).

Starcraft was amazing. And thats because its one of THE GREATEST games in its genre. Thats mostly why alot of people still play it.

I just hardly doubt we will seen anything of that kind of calibur being released on the NR.

I mean.. if you look at what Nintendo has been making.. its really not that great.

Take this for example. Ocarina of time was a great game that was amazing in all aspects.... But for only for the players who did not play A Link to the Past for the SNES. The Ocarina of Time was a good game, don't get me wrong. But there was no originality in the story of plot at all. Seeing as it was nearly an identical rehash of the story and plot from a Link to the past.

I think the controller is just something to get used to. I mean, ppl probably thought the current controllers were a bad idea at first too. Just because it's different, doesn't mean it's bad. And for $200, you can't really beat it. Plus it looks really cool too.

Yeah exactly..

Oh yeah, just read up on Displacement mapping which Nintendo is using.. Basically they can have low polygon counts, but they can be very detailed. So sure, Xbox 360 and PS3 may win on paper, but I say the actual graphics war has just begun..

And I believe displacement mapping is a Shader Model 3.0 spec, so in any case it would be more than just a faster Gamecube.

That's technically true. Modern controllers are all derivations of the original NES d-pad, which was not readily accepted from day one. People had been using joysticks and paddles for ten years, d-pads were new and strange. But because they worked so well with the games being released, they quickly caught on as the de-facto form factor. (A case could be made that the d-pad was itself a derivation of the Intellivision circular pad, but I won't go there.)

I think the new controller has some potential, especially in FPS games. I defy anyone to argue that a standard controller is a good input device for FPS games. They suck, period, end of debate. If they didn't, game developers wouldn't have to invent tricks like lock-on, auto-aim, "close enough" shots, etc. It's all crap invented to accomodate the limitations of the input device. The new controller theoretically should allow these tricks to go away. (So would an old Atari 5200 positional controller...but I digress.)

The trouble is that the majority of FPS gamers a) think of Nintendo as the kiddie game company, and b) are often slaves to high powered graphics. If the Revolution cannot deliver the realistic game environments we expect from the X360 and PS2, gamers may not even give the console and controller a chance. (Depending on the patents, the controller may be cloned for other consoles, of course.)

Wow, that's really understating the gameplay in GTA. Way to play right into Hillary's hands there, Jori. Broad and naiive statements like that are going to get the game industry regulated by clueless legislators, so you might want to choose your words more carefully!

Yeah, I didn't catch that the first time around. These games have nothing in common except for some common gameplay mechanics. That's how most franchise games are, by design.

Oh well. Thats what it is. I dont really care for games where people are like "Yo im gonna kill you blah blah blah" then shooting breaks out. All the GTA lack a storyline practically. The Gameplay of GTA games except for like 1 & 2 is like child's play. Very simple.
