Really confused

Thread Starter
I had an asus deluxe with a barton 2500 overclocked to a 3200 but for some reason it crapped out on me. Now I have my comp back up and running again I have a new mobo and chip. I didnt have a lot of money the time around so I got what the compter guy at the local store said he could get me for my price range. I came home with it and set it up with the new drivers and what not but when I did a cpuz run, it shows an AMD 64 which I dont think it is. Can someone tell me exactly what Im working with and if I can overclock this chip.

Thanks

I believe your chip would be this only running at 1.6Ghz instead of 1.8Ghz. I would say that chip would overclock nicely with some trials.

Yeah, what he said. It's still an Athlon, only just a mobile

Kepp going, you'll be able to get that beast up there pretty good

Um... wait a minute guys. That chip has 128KB of cache so it can't be an athlon 64 by any means. Only the slowest semprons go that low.

I was going off of Mangimor's link, lol.

Yeah, that's not an Athlon 64, it's an XP

Sometimes those identifying programs get confused from overclocking, when I overclock my 3000+ to 2.5ish it's recognized as a 4600+ (whatever the hell that is, lol) and if I go past that it defaults to just an AMD Athlon 64, so you can't always go by that. Your best bet is to take it back to stock and then see what it says, that will tell you for sure.

Ah..I did not catch the L2. This does not even mention an Athlon XP-M 2800+. Also "clawhammer" core, it doesn't make sense to anyone else does it? Something fishy with cpu-z maybe, try downloading a fresh copy of it here.

Yeah cpuz is conflicting with its own information because I have a clawhammer and it has 1024KB of L2 cache.

Well the 128K of L2 isn't the best. What are your idle/load temps at stock? I bet you can get a decent overclock with that chip.

last time I checked the temp was 33c idle. The chip isnt overclocked right now at that temp.
