Thread Starter

I stumbled upon those vids that shows of thermal compund spreads under the heatsink using different techniques. It's nice to see how it actualy spreads with the different techniques and pretty educational, wich is why I wanted to share it with you guys.

That was interesting to watch. A little dubious at how even pressure was (would perhaps be better with a clear block being compressed by a standard mounting mechanism) but was still worth watching.

What was interesting is that the Arctic Silver people really do have their reasons for insisting that dual and quad core people follow exactly their directions for applying Arctic * compounds, and it's down to the higher viscosity. By contrast the cheaper stuff spreads very easily and doesn't require more than a small amount.

Also, the MX-2 seems to be fairly sensitive to the amount used; the line method is obviously overkill, while a relatively small amount spread nice and evenly. But if just a bit too much is used the spread seems to be uneven (compare the pea and grain of rice).

Interesting, yes.

the X method looked best to me, it seemed to spread over the entire thing without the air bubbles.

They need to conduct a test where even pressure was used.
