My 7800 OC settings

Thread Starter
I see a lot of guys asking for settings on overclocking the gpu of their 7800 gt and gtx's

heres my input:

I have a BFG 7800 GT OC
I enabled the Coolbits tweak went into my Clock settings in the properties box
I messed around with the settings and gently brought up my frequencies bit by bit
I found that my limit of what even resembled gaming stability was aound 479 and 1.2 ghz but often led to crashes during either benchmarks or gaming sessions
My limit really was about 477 and 1.16.
I decided to run the auto detect settings just for kicks and the card recommended that it be at 475 and 1.15
Well what do you know!!! Thats what I got.
So anywho I left it at that setting and I havent got a crash yet (crosses fingers)
So I recommenc that you just run the auto-detect and use those settings because it will lead to better stability
And it will run like a champ

oh and if you are running sli mode and cant get it to run without crashing, upgrade your psu from 500w to 850, do us all a favor

Someone had to say it.

I just did Detect Optimal Frequencies in Coolbits, and using my prior knowledge that it usually picks settings are too high, backed them off to the next lowest square number (cause I like square numbers). After an hour or two of artifact testing with ATi Tool 0.24 BETA and 3DMark03, I came to 495/1375 as "stable enough" Basically I don't notice any artifacts in games, though ATi Tool will pick up a couple every couple of minutes. The big deal is getting up to or over the 500MHz core clock barrier, and in my testing with Coolbits and Riva Tuner, I've found the limitation is due to the variable domain clock frequencies making a large jump in the Shader and ROP domains in going from 499MHz core to 500MHz, causing some instability. Solution? Better cooling I guess. That or someone writes overclocking software to clock the domains individually.

Hmm.. on my 7800GT the detect was just about right..little low on the mem. It's interesting though, on my 6 series card the detect optimal was quite lower then my max and my max stable.
