OCZ platinum rev. 2 vs G.SKILL Extreme Series 2GB

alright, i havent seen this around, ive looked. i have heard great things about both...so, let the games begin!!!! which one is an awesome performer per price? they both are decent, but i dont think i will overclock TOO much. i will somewhat play around with setting, but not the holy grail of ocing here. btw, got a week 26 barton xp 3000+, a7n8x-e deluxe, 768MB of kingston (cries sadly)
a new coolermaster centurion case for better breathing...and some other parts pending...my vid card is weak!! wanting to upgrade at new year...waiting for tax money. i digress. which one would you pick? or is it a hard choice???
145 bucks(ocz) or 208(g.skill)??

First is this going to be going with your barton or a different cpu?
Second how important is budget?
Personally I would most likely go with the OCZ because of the price difference, they both have great reviews but one is a lot cheaper.

the barton. i wish i could run a 64. when i built my machine, it was budget-performance almost 3 years ago. i spent 600 bucks, now it isnt even worth 300..hahaha. anyways, it will be this stuff...oh, and that was my virgin post last time...haha. thanks for the speedy reply...and the budget is prolly going to be 500 bucks (pending with fire) , including a new vid card, next year.

I'd vote OCZ just because I'm more familar w/ OCZ... but i've heard good things about both. The OCZ platinum 4000 kit is some of the best overclocking 1gb sticks on the market.

G. Skill by leaps and bounds, period. Which model are you planning on getting? Are you trying to get these? Those aren't TCCD which won't OC nearly as far as say, the FFs. But that's why they don't cost nearly as much. Plus I haven't seen TCCD in 2x1Gb sticks. So you either gotta spend more and get TCCD which OCs like mad or spend less on the OCZ and get a lower OC.

if you go w/ a 1gb kit get the OCZ platinum rev. 2 They're TCCD and will OC wonderfully

if you go w/ a 2gb kit get this
http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...al_channel_kit
they're some of the best overclocking 1gb memory modules

i think i will go with the ocz. kind of a newb here, so...will faster ram work in a slower board? i might shell out the cash later for the faster if they can be pushed harder without the major upping in voltage. thanks guys, you are helping a lot. i think i might go with these then...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227208

or these...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227217

i know they both are at same speeds, but which has better chips, and how do you tell? go to manu. website and read up?

yes, faster memory will run on a slower board as you put it.

you can put DDR600 in a board that supports DDR400. It will run with tighter timings. The advantage of getting DDR500 or DDR600 is that it is guaranteed to run at those speeds. This can be helpful when overclocking. If you get DDR400 then you may reach DDR600 but it depends on the specific modules

If you are overclocking you should get DDR400 that you know will overclock or a good quality pair of DDR500 or DDR600 depending on how far you want to OC.

For example, I bought DDR400 even though I wanted to OC, but I got these
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146890
They use samsung TCCD chips which often OC to DDR600+ frequencies. So I knew what I was buying.

yes, you can click on the links to the manufactures website and read up. Not all RAM modules will tell you what chips they use. I think most of the OCZ platinum series use TCCD though. (except for the 1gb sticks) if you are unsure you can call OCZ tech support. They have a 800 number and they'll tell you. That's what I did before I ordered my platinum rev. 2 because for a short while OCZ used TCC5 instead of TCCD and I wanted to make sure I got TCCD. The guy at OCZ was very nice and told me how to tell the difference and everything.

I hope this helps.
