Overclocking a 6800

Thread Starter
i was thinking about OCing my 6800 but i dont know how high i can. The one I have is made by Leadtek and already has a really good cooling unit on it plus i installed a fan under it to suck hot air out. It also came with WinFox a program that among other things allows me to OC my card in both 2D and 3D but like i said i have no idea how high i can set them too. Any help would be greatly appriciated. I was also thinking about trying to unlock pipelines but i dont know how to do that and was worried about messing everything up. Let me know your thoughts on that to. Thank you very much.

yo man, welcome to the forum

i envy your 6800 (i have a 5500 PCI lol) and to overclock, monitor the temps and raise the speed about 10-20 mhz at first and then take baby steps up by about 5

to unlock pipes, get rivatuner and ask how to do it!

and research the max load temps the card can take and try to stay a bit below it (about 10-20 degrees) or get some better cooling and overclock some more!

thanks. i boosted it to 358/780 but the temp gets to be around 60 deg when playing a game, is this to warm? (my aquamark 3 went from 36731 to 42500 not as high as i would like but i think that is because i need a better cpu)

Welcome to the forums. First off, please fill out your system specs by going into "User CP" (Near the top of the page) and filling as much info as possible, to better let us understand your PC.
60C is not too hot for the GPU, you can still raise it a bit more. As for the guide to unlock the extra 4 pipelines and 1 vertex shader, please take a look at this guide http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/5665...ht=unlock+6800. Note that some 6800's have bad pipelines and therefore cannot unlock properly. But good luck!

The 5700 series all have 4 pixel pipelines (the LE, vanilla, Ultra versions all have the same 4 pipelines). In other words, there is no unlocking on your card except overclocking.
