computer to stereo receiver?

Hello all. My parents have an old Yamaha rx500u stereo receiver, and I was wondering if I could use that and the speakers as an output from my computer.

sorry if this sounds noobish.

also, I'm considering getting Audioengine A5s. I've heard good things, do you recommend them?

This is what you want. Plug the 3.5mm plug into you output or headphone on computer. Plug the RCA left/right into the Aux/tape/phono. Should be good to go. Radio Shack or any electronics retailer should have.

This.
Set your X-Fi to stereo and plug into the green mini-jack.

Thanks guys. I'll be going to radioshack soon. I'm kind of excited to go from logitechs to that, as I've read that it sounds good.

Would I be able to plug a subwoofer into it?

Edit: Nevermind, I won't need a sub with these.

Thanks for your help guys.

Another thing- I have to turn my computer volume to like 5 or so, otherwise it distorts. Is this normal?

Well the reciever isnt the best so I guess its ok.
Oh and at radio shack they like to sell mono cords instead of stero. Make sure that the 3.5mm cord and 2 lines instead of one. And if you wanted to use a subwooder, your reciver would need to have a sub port, that the amp would plug into. If you just try and connect it to the speaker terminal, you will hear noise you dont want to hear. Now if it doesnt have a sub port, and you dont want to buy a new reciver, then you need something called a crossover. Just an fyi

That usually happens when the sound card's equalizer is set to high. Try turning it off or the preamp for it down.

Try to use the AUX input over the Phono, the gain will be to too high on the Phono input possibly causing your distortion.
