Not really. You are NOT guaranteed a higher overclock by choosing a faster clocked chip.

are you trolling? Pretty much every 900 series i7 has gotten to 5GHz on extreme cooling (with the exception of a few lucky chips, one EE got to 5 on a TRUE if i remember correctly)

I don't think the OP is going to buy a 950 just so he can overclock it to 5GHz which probably will be not stable. That's a stupid point.

Even if a 950 was a guarenteed higher overclock (which it isn't), it still wouldn't be worth's its money compared to the price/performance of a 920. With the money saved, you could invest in an even better graphics card for instance.

Honestly, imo, the potential difference in batch, is the greatest potential difference here, on a given cooling medium.
