Applying OCZ Freeze on GPU?

Thread Starter
Alright, so I'd like to reapply the thermal paste on my GTX 260 with OCZ Freeze.

Is using the "rice" method valid for both the GPU and memory?
The 'rice grain' method is probably most accepted way of applying thermal paste to a CPU. It works well (specifically well for dual and quad cores) because the paste is laid out in a horizontal or vertical fashion, ensuring that all cores (2 or 4) are directly under the thermal paste.

However, in a GPU application, the entire processing unit will give off heat and is vulnerable to thermal damage if not covered, in my opinion, the whole surface should be accounted for. Here's a 'How to' that I found:

Not sure what paste you're using, but I've always chosen Arctic Silver Ceramique. Just throwing that out there.

I just put OCZ Freeze on my GPU, and like Deviance said, you cover the entire surface of the chip with a thin layer. For the memory chips you can use a small dab of compound, though. And OCZ is nonconductive so its great for GPU's, definitely do not use anything like AS5 on a GPU ever

I have used AS 5 on multiple GPU's with no issues at all.
AS 5 is not conductive, but is slightly capacitive.

Quote:
Not Electrically Conductive:
Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)

You just need to be careful and not get it all over everything.

Just be careful with AS5 and you should be fine. If you get it on the leads\races besides the GPU, your doing it wrong.
