Best LGA775

Thread Starter
I have a gaming friend who really likes their MoBo(with E8400-E0). He is wondering if there is a better CPU he should consider. Any suggestions?

For gaming? there is nothing LGA775 that is better than the e8400 IMO. That chip overclocks like a beast and will eat any game thrown at it. A good dual core is all you really need now because most games dont support quad core processing.

This is a pretty common opinion which for now makes a lot of sense. However, as all new processors are going to have 4+ cores new games are also going to start using 4+ cores (like GTA IV). IMO the q9550 is the best 775 CPU for it's price/performance ratio so I would suggest your friend get that, but he might not notice any difference right now over his e8400 and he won't be able to OC it as high.

Thanks for the input! Actually I have an E8400-C0. I doubt that it would be worth it to upgrade to the newer version. Since it is water cooled, it would be a pain.

Why not an E8600 E0 stepping, perhaps a Q9650 since Intel's newest lineup do not contain any dual cores. Quad cores are the future? :dunno
