Which Geforce is good for Future proof?

Thread Starter
Im probably gonna stay with Dell for another two years or so, then I will decide to build and overclock the new custom rig!!
HOwever, for the next two years and so, which Geforce AGP version card do you guys think is good for future proof?

The soon will- be -released Geforece 6800gs AGP ($200-$250?)or the Geforce 6800gt AGP ($270+?) or more other alternative cards that are available for AGP

Well if you were to get true futureproof a 7800gtx 512mb for pci-e...but, a 6800gt AGP is going to be the best bet for your system.

Either one of them would make good budget choices for the interim. The 6800GT is going to be faster because of its increased pixel pipelines (16 to be exact vs 12). There is also a frequency difference as well, but won't make as notable a difference as the pipelines.

The geforce 6800gs would be the best buy in the geforce/nvidia brands since it does have only 12 pipelines but keeps up with 6800gt/ultras in performance due to its high clocks or so i have heard. Then there is the ati x850xtpe or the (x800gto2 flashable to xtpe clocks and speed with aftermarket cooling) either will perform better than any geforce agp cards IMO.

the 6800GS AGP would be the best bang for your buck card because it is the game as the 6800GT in performence but if your looking for future proof you need to get a PCIe card

i'd say go w/ the 6800GS. it's a little cheaper, keeps up w/ the 6800GT at stock speeds and the core is built on a smaller process so i hear it overclocks quite well. overclocked it should actually perform better than the gt

Go with the 6800GS but i higly recommend you wait and save your money and make the switch to pci x16.

The best future proof geforce for you would be the 6800Ultra, for best AGP get the x850xtpe. Or as most have suggested get the 6800GS and save the rest of the money for a pci-e upgrade.
