I am going to a friends house next weekend and he is wanting to build a new PC. I have pretty much figured out what stuff to get him so far but here is a little info.

1. He is not an overclocker so were looking for a nice stable fast PC with out overclocking.

2. He wants AMD and ATI

3. There is a 900.00 limit on his build.

This is what I have come up with so far. Suggestions on parts are need because you never know if you overlook something and I know with this forum there is a lot of talent and insight on what parts are better or perform better.

BUILD

Case - Athenatech A416BS.H350 Silver/Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer
Case 350W Power Supply - Retail

Link - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16811190040

Reason- cheap case, because there is no performance factor in the case and would rather spend the majority of the money on decent parts to go inside. Price $32.50

Motherboard - ASUS A8V Socket 939 VIA K8T800 Pro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Link - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813131541

Reason - my idea of a good price/performance motherboard price $81.00

CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail

Link - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16819103539

Reason - Its a nice processor and if later on down the road he does decides to overclock then he has a decent board and processor to work with. Price $234.00

Video Card - ATI All-In-Wonder X800 XT 100-714200 Radeon X800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail

Link - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814102492

Reason - He wants to capture video from his camcorder of his child so he needs a good card for gamming but also have VIVO capabilities. Price $299.00

Power Supply - ASPIRE ATX-AS520W BLACK ATX 520W Power Supply 115/230 V CB IEC 950/ TUV EN 60950/ UL 1950/ CSA 950 - Retail

Link - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16817148008

Reason - I have an Aspire power supply and it works great and the relialibility of these things are great. Price/Performance factor on this is good also. Price $59.99

RAM - CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Retail

Link - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16820145440

Reason - Price/Performance factor.. decent timming and a good start for the system. Price $72.07

CD/DVD Burner - BenQ Black 16X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 16X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 5X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 24X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2M Cache IDE DVD Burner - OEM

Link - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16827101002

Reason - He was wanting two DVD/CD burners but I think I will talk him out of buying the second one so that he can buy better parts for the system. Later on he can buy another DVD/CD Burner. Price $37.99

Hard Drive - HITACHI Deskstar T7K250 HDT722516DLAT80 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache IDE Ultra ATA133 Hard Drive - OEM

Link - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16822145091

Reason - Decent size hard drive , ATA 133 , 8mb cache. Its a good start plus he plans on pulling a 250gig drive from his current PC. Between the two should give him plenty of room for a while. Price $74.26

Sub Total - $890.81

Shipping - $37.27

TOTAL COST - $928.08

Any parts or ideas are welcome just need to make sure that the price is right around the 900.00 range and that has got to include shipping cost. I would also like to let you know the reason I went with the VIA board was becasue of the AGP slot and the availibility of a decent video card with VIVO . We could get a PCI-E Motherboard but the ATI All in wonder card made for PCI-E got a few bad reviews so I opted for the AGP model as it got good reviews.

i'd say do a slight upgrade on the memory, like this stuff here

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145449

other than that, looks like a solid performer,

Only thing you should change is the hard drive, just swap the ata133 for a sata. They cost about the same and have faster load times.

That was an Idea but the reviews on this board said that it had problems making a sata drive a boot drive. I did not want to risk having problems with someone elses computer. If it were mine I would have done that I think.

That is a good find.. I over looked that one. I know he told me he had a 900.00 buget but I am not sure if he meant 900-1000 or not. But I think that would be worth the extra 20.00 bucks. I am going to show him this forum next week before we order all the parts.

Thanks for the link
