eVGA 7800GT. will they oc the same.

Thread Starter
I see many different eVGA 7800GT cards. All with different bios flashes and different speeds. I have money to buy a 7800GT and I have a few questions.

Basically, can you flash the eVGA cards to any one of the other bios? for example if i buy the 445mhz core card, can i flash it to the 460 core card?

Also, do they all Over clock the same?
Will the 400Core OC the same as the 460core ?

Thanks

I would just use the Auto Overclock tool and it will optimize it, I'd say you can get to around 470 core safely with stock cooling, but with better cooling you'll be able to go higher but the cores are the same just clocked differently.

That's why it's dumb to buy an OC version for so much mroe when you can just move the slider yourself and bam you saved $100

The CO version is rated at 470, I got one today but cant install it until christmas and I'm ordering a regular version which is rated 445, but I'm taking off the cooling of both and putting NV Silencers on it and then just doing the Auto Overclock in Coolbits

I would think so but you never know since nothing is guaranteed to OC the same, but it will be close, if you want it at 460 you're going to need better cooling than the stock, thats why the CO version is rated higher becasue it cools better with the Copper heatsink, I'm hoping to hit somwhere close to 490+ on both with the AM cooling...or just find a CO version cause they're running $305 shipped at Newegg, but they're out of stock

no, you cannot just flash the bios to the other models.

and not all will OC the same. The 7800GT CO and CO SE get the best cores that evga has. the CO runs at 470 and the CO SE runs at 460. Both CO models have copper heatsinks where all others have aluminum (along with basically eveyr other 7800GT on the market) The CO also has the fan off a GTX which has more fins and thus pushes more air.

all the 7800GT's will overclock to about the same frequency, so if the price difference is large just get a non-overclocked one. however, if the price is reasonable you might want to get one of the CO editions.

I never said to flash the BIOS, there is no flashing involved when upping the clock speed, but if he's going with the standard GT and wants to OC it to 460+ he's going to need a better cooler on it to handle the heat

EDIT: sorry didnt read his first post thoroughly
