No. DDR3 is not faster. The higher clock speed doesn't make up for the ridiculously high latency on DDR3 chips. Gigabyte makes an AM3 socket motherboard that supports DDR2. I'd go with that until DDR3 actually proves to be better.

DDR3 at higher frequencies may yeild 1-2 % faster if your lucky. Do not be afraid of DDR2.

The lack of L3 hurts it in some games. (Though it's not like any game is really going to be unplayable as a result. The 620 is still a good CPU)

Yes it does. Latency in nanoseconds is actually less on DDR3

I don't understand why people hate on DDR3 so much, yes, it used to be more expensive, but it really isn't any more... I say go with DDR3, its the present and future of memory, why go with the pasts standard?

Keep in mind most games won't use all four cores(most only use two). That being said, higher clocks are better than more cores.

Personally, I would go with a X2 550. There is a plethora of combos on Newegg, many are w/ mobos for under $200, some even have DDR3.

Same goes for the X3 720 that was mentioned earlier.

DDR3 memories have higher latencies than DDR2 memories, which in turn have higher latencies than DDR memories.
DDR3 still doesn't look like the best option for me. Maybe in a month or two it will be better. You'd need to spend like 200 bucks on DDR3 2133 for the Clock Period to make it better.
