I just built a computer for a friend yesterday, and I bought a 160GB SATA150 Seagate from Fry's and it turned out to only be 127GB!! What's the deal with that?

need to make sure sp1 is installed... its an os limitation, so install sp1 and windows will be able to address the full size of the drive

It is, the windows cd has sp1 on it. And it said the same thing in the BIOS. It's not Windows.

I'll try it, though I won't see him until new years eve for our "killer lan party". However I don't like SP2 as it slows down the computer so much, I don't use it myself.

sp1 introduced support for drives above 127 gb... and sp2 doesnt slow anything down, youre just listening to the rumor mill...

if sp1 is installed tho, its probably a slightly older bios that needs to be updated

Hmm... maybe I used the wrong cd. I'll tell him to download it and see if it helps out. I thought it said it in the BIOS, I may have been mistaken though.

if sp1 is installed, then windows should be fine... the bios itself is probably a little old, so update that and it should be able to address the entire drive
