Opteron 148 O/C?

Hey, since I cant find any 146s anywhere Im thinking of picking up a 148. It will be a new one so probably not a good stepping. I was wondering, what you all have been hearing people are getting the 148s to and what their cooling was.... I will have stock HSF on it at first and a big typhoon later when more money comes in. So what do you think I can get stable with stock HSF. Thanks

edit; Mobo will be DFI Ultra-D and RAM is Kingston Value Ram right now, but will get some TCCD RAM whenever I get the big typhoon.

another edit; Since it will probably be a CABGE am I better off just getting a regular 64? Trying to stay under $200 which would you recommend?

If money is tight and seeing how you're gonna get TCCD then I'd pick up a 146 and save some cash. It's got a 10x multi and TCCD regularly gets over 300 FSB so 300x10 = 3GHz. An 11x multi Opty 148 would favor you more if you had BH-5 or UTT RAM. Depending on the CPU's stepping you could go anywhere from 2.7-3.1+ with the Big Typhoon from what I've read. Just make sure you have a good PSU along with your other components.

Well, I cant find any 146s anywhere so thats out of the question. I can find a 148 for $252 which is quite a bit over my price-range. I can get the 3700 for $226 which seems more sensible considering the price. However still over my mark of $200. So points me to a 3200 for $166. What clocks have people been getting with the 3200 Venice with Big Typhoon?

btw - Transonic... love the avatar!

Don't forget eBay; you might just get lucky. Also, try calling around to some of the local shops in your area. I found a Venice 3000 that took me all the way to 2745 prime stable! All for the bargain price of $129 (micro center in Detroit area). Good luck hunting.

I been on the hunt for some Opty's online~ Froogle.com helped me find many stores but they're all out of stock- well the ones with ETA say around January 4th. It seems I'll probably be waiting til then to get mine to save a few $ over the 3700.
