intresting, well nero really eats the ram up... but im guessing it might be your odd HD config of having an IDE with a SATA.

Odd? I use an IDE with my raid drives, but its used as a back up, so there shouldnt be any problems there...perhaps he has some virii or spyware he needs to scan for.

Ste is right, although an AMD 4000 outperforms a 2.6GHZ P4 when coming to multitasking, a pentium of equivalent performance outperforms the AMD....however only in multitasking....i've seen graphs displaying these facts too. Anyway, try emptying out your temp folder, last time my pooter lagged, i emptied the temp folder and saw a significant difference. An easy was to get to it is to click run on the start menu, type: %temp% and then delete everything in the folder.

Oh and ive seen many problems with IDE and SATA....my mates IDE HDD screwed up when trying to run them together, however if his manages to run and save files in the first place, then it shouldn't be the problem.

well it is odd that he spends a bunch of money on the processor and on the ram, but gets 2 seperate HD's (IDE and SATA) instead of just SATA.. But, yea, a spyware scan would be a good idea..

actually i agree with pupqy. my old Pentium4 2.8C with HT handled general windows apps much better than my 3700+ SD does even @ 2.6Ghz. this is especially true when exiting a game that's a memory hog like BF2. my old P4 "rebounded" much quicker than my AMD does. and i notice slight pauses when i have 8 IE windows open or something, and i go to switch between a bunch of stuff while opening other programs all while having music in the background. it is by no means slow, but there's just a certain touch of responsiveness that a P4 with HT has that i feel AMD lacks.

but that being said, i'd never trade in my AMD for another intel (at least right now). this thing screams for games and single apps, and it does do great when running multiple things. it just doesn't have the same load-distributing functions that a P4 with HT does.

yeh spyware scan is good too....you still have too many programs running though, i have 5 taskbar programs running. Only essentials, NIS 2006, sound card, video card, video card overclocking, msn messenger.

i have no spyware i have scanned for it... i use opera and try to avoid sites which would give me crap. i have no pop ups. i use SATA as primary for winxp. that’s how i had before with my p4. i guess AMD (except dual) was made more for gaming than for using windows. i am little disappointed with the windowsxp performance of AMD damn i thought "hypertransport" was going to similar perforance to my older p4's "ht"! thanks guys for replies im going to get the big typhoon and o/c it at least 10% maybe then it will run little faster with xp.
