actually i agree with pupqy. my old Pentium4 2.8C with HT handled general windows apps much better than my 3700+ SD does even @ 2.6Ghz. this is especially true when exiting a game that's a memory hog like BF2. my old P4 "rebounded" much quicker than my AMD does. and i notice slight pauses when i have 8 IE windows open or something, and i go to switch between a bunch of stuff while opening other programs all while having music in the background. it is by no means slow, but there's just a certain touch of responsiveness that a P4 with HT has that i feel AMD lacks.
but that being said, i'd never trade in my AMD for another intel (at least right now). this thing screams for games and single apps, and it does do great when running multiple things. it just doesn't have the same load-distributing functions that a P4 with HT does.
