Thread Starter
My friend wanted to know what was the safe voltage he can run his AMD Athlon 64 3700+ Clawhammer CPU (not to be confused with my San Diego .Core)

He is tryint to Overclock it ans whats to know the max safe voltage for his CLawhammer Core AMD Processor.

Its not really the voltage as much as the temperature that kills processors. Tell him to keep it under 55 C underload and he will be good. The max temp that I would run on a claw hammer would be 1.65 v. But every processor is different as well as his case air flow and processor cooling.

Well...to overclock mine to only 2.6ghz, i have to increase my vcore to 1.6-1.65V, and it runs at 1.5V at it stock setting....but my temps are farely low, and the only way to get to 2.7 is to raise to 1.7V-1.73, do you think that would harm my processor?

If it's cool enough it'll probably be safe but the life of the CPU will be shorter than one that hasn't been overclocked.
Not bad at all...

Maximum voltage is dependant mostly on how well you can cool it. The higher the voltages you run, the cooler you need to be able to keep it. 1.7 volts was usually the max for air cooling because that was about the highest voltage you can run on air cooling while keeping decent load temperatures. If you can keep the load temperatures at or below 45C, you could run upwards of 1.8 volts. Other wise, I'd say 1.7v at about 50C load.

Thanks a lot for the information, it seems like the clawhammer cores require ridiculous amounts of power....like, .1V per 100mhz....
