Foxconn Model 945P7AA-8EKRS2

here is what i wrote to tech support..

i have had many problems with this board... 945P7AA-8EKRS2. ive already spoken to tech support before; there was no mention in the specs or anything that you cannot use optical IDE drives on the UDMA 133 controllers on the board. i have two optical drives one cdrw and one dvdrw both PATA IDE; also one PATA IDE 80Gb HDD. when using the UDMA 133 controller for the hdd and the udma 100 controller for the 2 optical drives the hdd access is very very slow. i have tried multiple known good ide cables. i have tried all the various jumper settingson the drives, none seem to work better. when using the hdd on the udma 100 controller the hdd access is still very slow, not as much but still much slower than even my old 200mhz mmx machine with the same hdd in it. i am using WINDOWS 2000 SP4 not WINDOWS XP, everytime i mail you you say to install XP, im not installing XP im using 2000 which i have reinstalled at least 5 times since ive gotten this board. thats a clean reinstall also no parrallel install or dirty install, straight debug, format, reinstall. then with sp 4 then chipset ext. only installing drivers run any benchmark and its hdd access is twice as slow as the 200mhz machine with the same hdd and cable in it. ill put it this way when formating the driver on the old system it takes 30min when on this system it takes about 2hrs. i am also having problems with the dvdrw. which also works fine on the other sysem running windows 98. when accessing it at all the cpu peaks out and locks the system up again after a clean format reinstall. it works fine with cds though and the other cdrw drive works fine. another thing, when you have a disk dvd or cd in the drive on boot when you go to my computer and try to open it, it says theres no disk in the drive; you have to take it out and put it back in then it will see the disk. all of this works fine on the other computer with the same drive. when i first got this board i was impressed with all the features but now i am starting to think twice as they do not work correctlly. i want these issues resolved i am tired of messing with it when i know its the board that is the problem. i want a rma or refund or something. do you have any diagnostics or anything you want me to run? i need a resolution to these problems. the only thing i havent tried, which ill try tonight, is installing 98SE and seeing how it works with it. i have been very disapointed with your tech support as well, i write up a 500 word explination of the issue and you mail me back with two sentences saying to install XP, i dont have XP, i dont want XP, ide rather 95 than that resource hog. i have 1GB DDR2 667(2x 512MB) by the way the crosair that is in your supported list. please give me an explination and resolution to these issues with your motherboard.

thank you, Matthew Bodin

in case anyone here has any ideas.... thanks in advance.

My first suggestion would be to go with a better board.
If thats not a viable option then make sure that the drive controllers are set to DMA in Device Manager-> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers (should be something like that) then properties of Primary/Secondary IDE Channel and its in the advanced settings tab in there. If they're set on PIO they'll be acting laggy and slow, I know for w2k that the CD drives are normally set to PIO, I'm not sure if its your problem but it may help with the CD drive issue.

ive already checked if its on dma or not and they are on UDMA..

im thinking about just tossing the board and getting an ASUS..
