Build for my bud

Thread Starter
We have 2 options, after i noticed that build 1's mobo runs on the 790X chipset not the 790FX,

I have a few questions, this dragon platform thing is con****ulating, its only the 790FX chipset?

Btw im in South Africa and for sum reason they dump all the semi decent memory here, (ill admit kingston or corsair wont give u any grief) but its all high latency dog**** so these are the ONLY decent modules i found that are on the QVL and dealing from past experience ill stick with the QVL.

This is the website im using www.comx.co.za and id like to stick to them plz.

My question is which mobo ram combo is the better option? My bud doesnt OC, and ill be the 1 getting it all upto speed, so yeah.

nb: in ZAR ~ $1=R7.50
Without further moaning.

First thing about the CPU, I'd advise getting a 965BE C3 stepping if you they got some, it's listed on that website but word of caution, since they list the 965BE with a TDP of either 125W either 140W, ask for a 125W one, these are the C3 stepping.

Then onto the mobo matter. First off you made a typo the M4A79T Deluxe uses a 790FX not GX chipset, but it doesn't matter much anyway.
Personally I'd advise to go for the M4A79T Deluxe because if your friend wants to go CrossFire down the road, it'll be a better choice (dual 16X whereas the EVO is 16X/8X). The only thing the EVO has compared to its big sister is support for higher clocked RAM, and that wouldn't impact the perfs much.
Then taking a look at details, you can see the M4A79T Deluxe has a better on-board audio chipset (dunno if your friend will use it or not but at any rate it's worth mentioning), while the EVO has one more SATA connector.

All in all it's a close call, and maybe I'm biaised because I've been using the M4A79T Deluxe for months now without a single problem, but I say you gotta keep in mind upgrade possibilities when you build a rig, and better spending a bit more to have a mobo that can handle dual 16X rather than 16X/8X.
But then again, it's your call.

As far as the RAM modules are concerned, I'd advise you to go for the Corsair XMS DDR3-1600 2x 2GB kit or the OCZ Reaper DDR3-1600 2x 2GB kit for they both use really good RAM with heatsinks that will handle ocing better than most other modules.

hey man, get build 2. it's cheaper and will not give you any problems from the start. build 1 is good as well, but with that extra money i would invest into a better cooler.

One More thing, well were going with the 1333mhz LV platinums, but i been reading on that mobo, and like all the asus last gen AMD boards they have bios chip issues....

ill consider the reapers (but they dont have good reputations) good performance, but we got 2 dead reapers in 2 kits.... so not good, (granted they were 1200mhz ddr2 kits)

The evo has a much lower fail rate, as for the 8X/16x u wont lose much performance, like 3~5%
