these lights on my 4870

Can someone explain me what they are for.

Also, why is that only 3 lights lit up when i start my comp instead of all 4?
Im talking about these leds on the backside of the GPU.

Ive always had this happen, and never really payed attention to it.
Im just curious if thats a bad thing or not.

I had my 4870 and it did the same thing.

I'm under the assumtion it's a self power check, BIOS check and system check.

if they just flash on then off thats normal, mine only flashes 3 aswell.

Here is what the LEDs stand for
first red LED on, shows critical temperature fault

second red LED on, shows External power connector A was removed

third red LED on, shows External power connector B was removed

fourth red LED on, shows critical Core power fault

Ah, im assuming that once one of these leds stay lit up, it would mean that the reason is either one of those?

not that ive had this happen so far, but it could be a nice guide to the problem should anything happen.

From the AMD/ATI Radeon Graphic Forums:

Sticky: DIAGNOSTIC LEDs ON HD4850/70

HD4870 LEDs

D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault

D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed

D1603 - Red LED On, shows External power connector B was removed

D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault

Clip from the page. The 3 Lights coming on at boot is normal and part of the GPU's own self BIOS self test.
